How does one introduce/import a 2nd character into a scene and keep the first character?

I can import my character into a scene.  But when I try to import a second character into the scene, the second character just replaces the first.  What am I doing wrong?  What is the procedure for introducing a second character?

Don't have the first figure selected.

A box should pop up if you have a figure selected asking if you want to add a new figure or apply the loading one to the already present figure.

By default the program should show a dialog asking you if you want to apply it to current figure or load a new one. It's possible you set it to "not show again", in which case it would keep the answer you chose last.

You can change it back in DS preferences (Edit > Preferences): in the "Content" tab there's a setting about loading .duf characters where you can select something like "always apply to character", "always load new figure" or "show dialog"
