412 can't find my content? 411 did.

Yes, I have 50 mapped directory's --- okay folders on a hard drive
and I have to tell 412 about each one?
or wait while it scans 700 gs of data.
--
Oh, and it did say "oh, oh, I found a database called 07 teen clothes ... arent' I good should I add it"
sure but what about the other 50 folders on the drive.
---
part of the reason I ask ..it I just upgraded from 410 to 411 and all my content and layout and everything were right there.
Anyone know what file I should put in the 412 folder that carries the data?

Is that the first time you installed a beta? They don’t share settings with the general release install so that they don’t risk breaking it.

There are scripts available to copy over the settings, see here: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/4377996/

  • I  figued that .. because when you install the regular it goes in where the data is
just couldn't figure out where it is under what name..
    thanks for the link ..

  • If all you're interested is your mapped directories, just copy the Contentdirectorymanager.dsx file(x:\Users\"name"\Appdata\Roaming\Daz 3D\Studio 4).

This is the file that contains all your mapped directories.

Just be sure you have something other than just "Current Directories"  in CDM(content directory manager, inside DS)

If you don't, it won't work. If you need to create a new set, just highlight, in CDM, the Current Directories and click Copy, it'll create another set that when imported into the other version of DS you'll just need to click the radio button of that set and click accept.

If you're really adventurous, you can edit that file via Notepad++ and just manually enter/delete the data.

Rob says this is not correct.

  • To amplify

Mapped content directories are stored in application settings (i.e., the registry on Windows, a plist on macOS). ContentDirectoryManager.dsx contains Content Set definitions. If you do not make an explicit copy (i.e., a Content Set) of the currently mapped content directories within the Content Directory Manager, in Daz Studio, prior to copying the file, the file will not contain all your mapped content directories.

(I think you were making some alowancen for this, given your comment "Just be sure you have something other than just "Current Directories"  in CDM(content directory manager, inside DS)" - but that will still only give you the stored sets, not the current set if that is different)

  • thanks,
I used the script mentioned above and brought them all over.
    ----
but for a bit it looked like I was going to have to add each directory (folder) one at a time in the manager.
    ---
I have a arachic system but way back in day one (2007) or so, I started putting items in folders on my hard drive.
So my content structure is a hard copy and the back up drive is a carbon copy.
    ---
it's a small pain to tell DIM where to put each file but once I found where that file list was and put the folders in numeric order instead of the order they were created. It's pretty quick.
    ---
the folders on my drive added to the content directory manager give me the content library as seen in the picture.
