How To Prevent Viewport Control From Switching Mode?

Hi everyone :D

I often use the shortcut "W" to zoom into the scene, and I use the other keyboard controls as well.

The problem with this, is that when I then use the viewport controls to move the "view", it doesn't work properly anymore. Instead of rotating around the center of the view, it "rotates itself".

Then, when I "frame" the view over something, it goes back to normal.

How could I prevent this from happening? I don't know if the standard mode is called "Pan" or something like that, but I always want that one to be the default.

Thank you in advance!

Since you're using Keyboard Navigation, you probably know all these, but are you aware of the other keys?

    1. Shift+K - Turn On Keyboard Navigation
    2. Q - Move up
    3. E - Move down
    4. W - Move forward
    5. S - Move back
    6. A - Move left
    7. D - Move right
    8. ] - Increase Move speed
    9. [ - Decrease Move speed
    10. Alt+[ - Reset Move speed
    11. I - Look up (Pitch)
    12. K - Look down (Pitch)
    13. J - Look left (yaw)
    14. L - Look right (Yaw)
    15. U - Bank left (Roll)
    16. O - Bank right (Roll)
    17. } - Increase rotation speed
    18. { - Decrease rotation speed
    19. Alt+] - Reset rotation speed
    20. P - Level pitch/roll
    21. Alt+P - Snap level

I think the issue may be that when you turn on the keyboard navigation, Studio loses it's point of focus for the other viewport controls. That's why you need to frame something first. You might consider submitting it as a bug/feature request since it would make more sense if it changed the focus to the World Origin instead of setting it to the viewport location itself?

it's also curious that there's a "Turn On Keyboard Navigation" shortcut, but no corresponding "Turn Off" unless it's a toggle? You might try a Shift-K before using the viewport / mouse controls and see if that helps?

Yes I know these shortcuts, thanks!

I always leave them on, I've never turned the keyboard shortcut off.

I've noticed that if you right click (instead of left clicking) on the rotate button in the viewport, it uses these two modes.
For the viewport view, they just switch, but both of them are "strange" before framing an object with the Camera.

Yeah, I'd log a Help Desk Ticket then. At least get clarification if what you're seeing is "by design" or some technical restriction rather than a bug.

Orbit depends on the centre of rotation - using Frame (or Aim) set that to the target item's centre point. As far as I know when you dolly the camera, with W or the like, you also "dolly" the pivot point (and Rob confirms this).

    Thank you both! :D

At least knowing that framing is the only solution, at least I get a peace of mind! :)
