Smart Content and Smart Content Icons

Hello,

I was wondering if there is any good documentation on what Smart Content is, how it works and what the little symbols mean that show up in the top right corner of the icons? I am confused to what is happening because some icons have symbols in the corner and some do not. When I right click on the icons, depending on what the symbol is in the corner, I am given options to uninstall or install or install update. All of my content has been installed using the DIM so I don't know why I am given the option to install them again. Updating them I can understand but not a just a basic install if they are already installed. If I do click on the install, it takes a very, very ,very long time to install but when it is done the symbol in the top corner does disappear unless there is an update.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

    Hi Richard,

Thank you for the reply. I have looked at these and they don't seem to describe what it is I am seeing. The symbols I am seeing are in the top right corner of the icon and these articles don't seem to address them. Also I still don't understand why I am given the option to install content if it has already been installed using DIM.

Those are typically things that Daz Connect (the installer that is built into Studio) wants to install.

I know you're going to ask why Connect wants to install things that DIM has already installed. wink My answer would be "I don't know."

You can also find these things by opening the Install tab (I believe, not at my graphics PC at the moment) and installing them from there. The "lovely" thing will be you'll probalby end up with 2 copies of the same content installed. In 2 different libraries nonetheless since Connect needs to manage it's own library location. I do it anyway because i have room on my HD and feeling like there are products which I should be installing but haven't bothers my OCD. But it is a pain for sure.

  • If the thumbnail is grey and you are required to install via Connect before you can do anythng then there is a problem with your content or with communications between applications and database.

If you just have the symbols telling you you can install, Connect has advantages (only updated files need downloading, not the whole zip, for example).
