How to keep the viewport bright after adding lights?

Whenever I add lights to a scene, the view port goes dark and outside of iray none of the view modes give me a scene that is bright enough that I can pose my characters.
is there a trick that i can use to have both lights and a bright view port at the same time?

Yes. CTRL+L switches the viewport back to the normal preview lighting. When you hit CTRL+L again or render it returns to your created lights.

  • thank you ^^
this is the kind of things that requires an icon on the side of the viewport, but I'll take what I can get.

Toggling the preview of lights off/on is in the Window menu - you can use Window>Workspace>Customise to add it to a tool bar if you wish, by dragging its entry from the Window group on the left to the Tool bar of choice on the right.
