Tired of slamming my head against my desk

Hi again.  Here is my basic situation: My computer won't accept an upgrade to OpenGL 1.3 from 1.2.  To replace the graphics card is going to be more expensive than purchasing a better, less expensive laptop.  While the prospect of a new laptop is wonderful, if I can't afford the graphics card, I can't afford another computer.  So I turn to the wisest sages I know, you folks.  What would you do in this position?
