Genesis doesn't work- "/data/DAZ3D/Genesis/Base/Genesis.dsf " is missing.

I installed Genesis with the Install Manager, via the default install path. However, whenever I try to open the Genesis figure, DAZ produces a popup window saying "Some assets needed to load the file were missing. the content may not work as expected. The following files could not be found: /data/DAZ3D/Genesis/Base/Genesis.dsf" There is no option to choose a new file path, or any further explanation. Clicking Ok, the only option, results in the figure entering the scene, but being made up of grey cuboids. I use a Windows 7 operating system. Any help would be appreciated.

Windows 7, default path. Sorry for not clarifying that.

You need to change the Start up path from dsf to the new DUF as I did in mine shown below...

Second thing to check is DAZ Studio set to READ the DIM folder. At Default it is not... This is a DIM set path set up.

I've done both those things, but the problem still persists. I've also discovered that where I've been putting my content (c:/Users/User/Documents/Daz3d/Studio/My Library) doesn't seem to be the right place. Should I copy it over or just have two paths in the Content Directory Manager?

Have you made sure that the version of Starter Essentials installed matches the version of Studio installed?

If they don't match you can have 'not found' errors, too.

And if you are doing manual installs to your Documents/.../My Library AND letting the DIM install to IT'S own default, then yes you need to have both listed or merge them, some way.

I ran into this problem the other day as well - DIM said it had installed the packages successfully when I downloaded them, then when I restarted DIM it said the downloads for both of them had failed and I had to redownload the starter package... It might be worth checking that one, just in case.

The problem most people are having is the content library path DIM is installing to is not the content library path that Studio is set to. If content was luggage it would be like DIM is sending it Cleveland when Studio is expecting it in Cincinnati. In DAZ Studio go to Edit / Preferences / Content Library (tab) / Content Directory Manager (button). Expand DAZ Studio Formats and note the path listed, expand the Poser Formats and make sure the same path is listed there. Open DIM and click on the 'cog' icon, go to the Installation tab, if the path from Studio is not listed click the '+' symbol to add it. Once the path is added click 'Accept' to exit Preferences and go to the Installed tab and uninstall the Starter Essentials. Go to the Ready To Install tab and make sure the 'Show Details' box is checked. Use the Content Path Shortcuts button to set the install location to the path you just added the re-install. Restart Studio (you may need to reboot first) and the Genesises should work now.

I posted above the PROPER paths for DIM installed content as set in the DAZ Studio paths. THAT is the DIM paths in my example above.

Sorry Jaderail, what I want people to understand is there is no PROPER install location. Studio and Poser content uses relative addressing not absolute addressing. Relative addressing example is... /data/DAZ3D/Genesis/Base/Genesis.dsf ... as opposed to absolute addressing which would look like... c:/User/Public/Documents/data/DAZ3D/Genesis/Base/Genesis.dsf . Relative addressing allows content to be located anywhere (with the exception of protected folders on Windows OSes) as long as Studio knows where it is. I have multiple content libraries none of which is the PROPER path, what is important is that they are set the same in both Studio and DIM.

What I am addressing is a DEFAULT use of the programs at DEFAULT install for NEW USERS. So they can get up and running. Not Advanced uses of the software. I am fully aware of the advanced methods but NEW USERS may not be.
