Did you save as JPG? JPG's can't handle transparency, save as TIF or PNG.

  • Also make sure you don't have a backdrop set in the Environment pane, Window>Panes(Tabs)>Environment

Was not referring to pix, I know PNGs has transparency, JPGs do not; the backdrop in the scene windows is black and when rendering. I have reinstalled for another reason and the problem has stopped. The backdrop is still black, not grey, but I'm rendering now and the transparency is back.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I was kinda majorly tired last night when I stumbled across this. It may have been taken care of during reinstall, or it may not have existed. Who knows. Been banging my head on minor problems for one reason or another for past week or so, I may have seen this as a problem when it did not exist. laugh

  • I think I found my mistake. When previewing in Nvidia Iray the background is black, when rendering the background is transparent. Sorry for the inconvenience.
