OOT hair - forehead cracking

Not sure if others have had eh same problem but in more than one instance, I get the forehead cracking problem when I use OOT hair props.  Sometimes the (0,0,0) trick works but is there something I can do prevent the forehead cracking without parenting everything to the figure and then posing at (0,0,0)?

Thanks for any guidance.

  • To be clear, you mean the issue with the transparency-mapped sections of the skullcap showing if the model is rendered far from the centre of the world space? I'm not aware of another way around that.

Sometimes I've had luck using the included morphs to fix the skullcap with varying results. Unfortunately post-work cleaning is required afterwards. Not sure why it only happens with OOT hairs. I never had problems until DAZ Studio 4.10 updated, which is when the problem started popping up.

You can also try adding a smoothing modifyier and upping the collisions. With some hairs, that solution ends up fixing the problem.

Yup, the transparency-mapped sections of the skullcap showing seems to be the problem because as soon as I delete the hair prop - no forehead cracking.  Sometimes, I even not that far from the center and the forehead cracking happens.  I love OOT hair but the forehead cracking is so annoying.

If the hair has any morphs for the forehead or hairline. you could try using those to move the scalp further out from the character's forehead. That sometimes works for me.

  • Sorry about the double post.  The adjust headsize morph seems to help... thanks!

it seems i can solved that sometimes by adjusting the headsize dial of the hair, like to 5% or so

I have that issue with some hair items, but as jstilton suggests, adjust the hair size down and it should go away.
