What happens if you change a texture while rendering?

If you're doing an IRAY render, hit cancel so the rendering can resume, and then change a texture of one of the scene items. Will the resumed render start picking up the change or continue using the original texture?

I am pretty ceratin the render will restart at the beginning if you chnage a fundamental part of the scene: you can really only chnage a few parametrs in the render settings and get away with resuming.

if you are at this moment in the middle of a long render, finish it then change the item and just spot render a png with dome hidden no bg to file that new bit and layer it in an image editor

I changed the texture map of a chair in my scene, from wood to stained wood, same map except for a filter forge alteration. The scene is definitely resuming but I'm not sure whether the stain was enough of a change to see it easily. I will have to experiment on a simple object after this rendering finishes. Thanks all for your replies.

it will continue with the snapshot created when the render was originally started

Yes. In a new scene I tried the chair with a duplicate side by side and when I changed the texture of one nothing happened. Texture files must be cached in memory.

For Iray the data is passed to the render engine when the render starts and not touched by DS thereafter.

I have seen lines like "Loading texture C:\whatever.jpg.." while Daz is rendering halfway through, so I'm not sure if Daz loads everything in the beginning if it doesn't have the memory for it.
