Parent hand of one figure to a different figure.

In Poser, this was trivial to do, but you couldn't undo it (at least I never figured out how). But I'm not seeing a way in DS to do this.

Let's say you have two figures holding hands, and you want their hands to stay together as you pose them. Is it possible in DS?

  • Casual has some free scripts that will help with this. the current Public Build series, 4.12.0.67 now, introduces parentable IK targets which can be used for this kind of thing.

  • Thanks Richard.

I looked through Casual's scripts, but the only thing that seemed possibly relevant was PinMeDown, but I don't think that will do what I need.

Been searching, but don't know how to get to the public builds of DS.

You have to "buy" it, then use DIM to install it. In DIM go to the gear icon, then download tab, and check public build to see it in available downloads

  • I'm not seeing where to "buy" it.

I checked the public build option on DIM, but I don't see a public build avaialble for download or install.

  • Never mind, found the link to add to my cart in another thread.

    Thanks!

  • Ok, I've got 4.12 public build loaded. I'm not seeing anything different when using the multi-selector or the bone selector. Just the standard translation and rotation pins. Been looking through the menus and parameters, but nothing.

  • You need to select the bones of the IK chain you want - e.g. the hand to the shoulder.

    Create>New IK Chain

Parent the new IK chanin node to the hand of the other figure

Turn on the pinning and reach settings for the chain in the Parameters pane

Sory, that was wrong - there's no need to or benefit from selecting more than one bone before creating the chain, just select the hand (for this) and DS will assign reasonable start and end bones.

    Create>New IK Chain

Parent the new IK chanin node to the hand of the other figure

Turn on the pinning and reach settings for the chain in the Parameters pane

  • Is that going to be undo-able?

I found that standard pinning in PB isn't working, neither do the translate and rotate tools.
