Hello:
I was hoping to get some help and assistance with this. I have a website where I sell
various products, mostly motion sequence sets for Poser and DAZ characters.
Most are for M4 V4, and M3 & V3.
My goal for the coming year is to convert the best of my sets to the newer versions of Michael
and Victoria and Genesis. Problem is I have no idea which to focus on, Michael or Victoria 6, 5,
or Genesis, or are they all Genesis rigs? Can anyone give me an idea of the differences between
them if any, and which is or will be the most popular this and next year. Any assistance and
information would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks, Keith

Genesis was first which is what Michael and Vicky 5 are based on. DAZ decided for some odd reason to abandon them quickly and came out with genesis 2 female which is what Vicky 6 is based on and then came out with genesis 2 male which is what Michael 6 is based on. The community seems to be mixed on which they prefer. Some like myself and others prefer genesis 1 which is more versatile. Others prefer genesis 2 figures because they tend to be more gender specific with some more definition. Luckily most addons can be used with either with some addons, so it's up to you which you want tom support.

For Generation 4, V4 and M4 were base figures. Aliko 4, the Girl 4, ect were morphs off of these base characters.

For Generation 5, Genesis (Genesis 1) is the base figure for both male and female characters. Victoria 5 and Michael 5 are both morphs of the Genesis base character. I would imagine that an animation block for Genesis would work for both Victoria 5 and Michael 5, but, of course, might not be optimized for their body shape.

For Generation 6, DAZ went back to separate base figures for male and female, so we have Genesis 2 female with Victoria 6 being a morph of G2F and Genesis 2 Male, with Michael 6 being a morph of G2M. This is presumably to give better definition to the male and female bodies.

DAZ has also introduced the new HD morph technology for Genesis 2, which allows more detailed morphs. It seems like Genesis 2 is the DAZ flagship technology. DAZ has not completely abandoned Genesis 1 though. They continue to release products for Genesis 1 and even a few for Victoria 4. There is still strong support for Generator 4 at other sites.

Both Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 are stable in DAZ Studio. I'm not sure how stable they are in other tools. I have a friend that uses Carrara for animation. He tells me that with the new 8.5 release, Genesis 1 is now stable in Carrara, but he experiences crashes with Genesis 2. He was a long time user of V4/M4, but he loves Genesis 1 now, because the clothes work much better than V4/M4. This was as of a few months ago, so the problems with Genesis 2 in Carrara may have been fixed.

I'm not sure what the state of Genesis 1 and 2 in Poser. I have no direct experience and the people I know using Poser are still using V4/M4.

Actually Victoria 1 was the Millennium Woman and Micheal was the Millennium Man. The P4 man is Dork and the P4 woman is Posette.

Once DAZ had more than one version of Victoria and Micheal, M1 and V1 used to be Mike and Vicki. M2 and V2 were the second generation. V3 and M3 were the third and so on.

NVIATWAS: Naked Vicki in a Temple with a Sword. Prior to V4, the DAZ base figures didn't come with clothes, hair or textures. Free sword and building/room props were common at the old PCF and other sites.

Plus of course it was far easier to poser her naked and not have to worry about poke through and getting clothes to hang right on the older figures.

Very true. No clothes, no poke through. And we did have to wait until Poser 4 for conforming clothing.

    Yes.

Tell me, can you remember the name of the guy who made all the super obj morphs for Posette. I think he was probably Japanese. I should have them on back up somewhere, if I can remember what to look for, and I have a yearning to see if I can use dynamic clothing with Posette, just for a giggle, to see what she would look like with clothing that really fitted her.

Thank you so much, all of you, for the fast and informative replies to my query. It was exactly the info I
needed to point me in the right direction.
If you don't mind one more query before I move on, well actually 2.
Firstly, which version of Genesis, if that's what it is, is the default figure in DAZ 4.6?

Lastly, if you don't mind taking a moment from your busy lives please take a quick look at the product line of
mo cap/key framed motion sequence sets at Eclipse Studios ( www.es3d.com) and post a reply indicting which ten
sets you think I should convert first. If enough people respond I can get a good idea of the type and order of sets
    to start working on. .

Thanks and a Happy New Year to all.

Actually you now get in the DS4.6 ,the base Genesis1 figure, and the Genesis2 Female base and the Genesis2 Male base, M5,&V5; are morphs to the Genesis1 base, and M6&V6; are morphs ,so you could make the animations using the bases of your choice.
