Globe glass turns black when rendering.

Globe glass turns black when rendering. what should i do to get glass. I tried all sorts of things, but when rendering, the glass remains black and I don't see genes 8 female in the globe. Who knows a solution for this? Thank you. Greetings Elly from Holland zie mijn voorbeeld;

  • I forget to say that I render with delight because I have an Intel graphic card. and work with dazz studio 4.11 Greetings from Elly

You said you’re rendering with 3DL. Does the glass part actually have 3DL materials applied?

  • I don't no, were find i this?

You need to go to the “surfaces” tab and check the surface parameters used on the surfaces corresponding to the glass: at the top there should be a parameter telling you what shader is used.

  • Do you mean this?

  • My girlfriend has tested it, she works with iray.
And with her it works, probably only with Iray and not with Delight.
    Would it be that?

    Greetings from Elly

  • Right, that's the default Iray shader which 3Delight really can't handle. There is a free script for converting I think, and another in the store - though in this case you could just find a 3delight glass shader preset and apply that to the globe, or save one from another model that does work (to save a sahder preset you need to seelct both the mdoel and the surface, which is simplest with the Surface Selection tool, then File>Save As>Shader Preset; then select the model and surface you want to change and apply the preset).

  • Can you explain to me with a print how I can do that?
    Would be sweet.
    Thanks in advance.
    Greetings from Elly

  • Well, do you have any sets with good-looking glass or crystal that work in 3Delight?

  • no I don't

  • can you tell me wath i need?

    Then buy i it.

    no I don't

You could use for example the caustic glass shader. Your content library/shader presets/shadermixer/glass. Select the snowglobe in the scene tab, in the surface tab also select the glass surface and double click the glass shader preset. Note that it will have refraction enabled. To turn it off, in the surface tab find refraction and set it to 1= no refraction. Or you can use the DS default shader (content library/shader presets/DS defaults/dzdefault. Adjust opacity, diffuse strength and color, and reflection strength to your liking.

Here is a quick glass render with the dz default shader and the settings I used:

Note: Set "multiply specular through opacity" to off!

  • you know so well great, I am a beginner with shaders and especially because I have deleght. would you like to show me print?
    Thank you, greetings elly

  • i dont she this in surface, look my images above. what is Spehre?

Sven used the glass shader on a primitive sphere to show you how it looks, so the surface in that example is called "sphere". You need to apply that shader to the "glass" surface of your object.

  • sorry it doesn't work, i don't get it.
I think I can forget this, an 8 female in a globe was just as nice.
Thank you for all the help

sorry it doesn't work, i don't get it.

What did you try, and what didn't work?

Edit: also, what set is the globe from? If I have it I can try to setup a 3DL preset for it...

    I will try again tomorrow.
Because I would like to learn how to make glass in dazz with delight.
I made this in poser, and I would like that in dazz.
This one I made now does not work in Dazz either

    Hey
I'm still working on that globe.
Things are already moving in the right direction.
    But I have a question.
When I look at your print.

Then I see that with difusse color, 3 numbers are entered, and with refraction collor also 3 numbers.
    but I can't, I can only enter 1 number.
    How do you do this?
And I agree that I also need to use light, which light do I do?
Thank you for the help of all of you.

You should be able to click and hold on a number, then scroll left or right to change the value. What I did was just click on the color field to open the color picker, for diffuse color I picked a dark gray/green color. The refraction color I picked was a light green one. Just use my example as a starting point, modify according to your needs;) It's the refraction color that gives the glass its "color". So your figure inside will be tinted according to the refraction color you choose.

And I agree that I also need to use light, which light do I do?

Can't really answer that. It depends on the level of realism, do you want "real world" lighting or a more stylished light? Is it indoor or outdoor? Or totally abstract? I'd use either a distant light for "sunlight" or one or more spotlights, maybe different colored lights. Also some sort of ambient light (global illumination). For that you can use for example the UberEnvironment2, found in content library/ light presets/ Omifreaker/ UberEnvironment2. Or if you own the AoA lights (Age Of Armour) I recommend using AoA distant- or spotlights combined with an AoA ambient light. (Search the store for AoA lights bundle if you're not familiar with them.)

Also note that the glass will need something in the scene to reflect, like a skydome or other environment. Reflective surfaces like glass, water and metals don't look good with an empty background.

If you have more questions, just ask, and I or somebody else will try to sort things out:)
