Relationship between DAZ, Poser, and Carrara

I have now done several clips using DAZ and would like to improve the animations.
I have noted two programs: Poser and Carrara.

I do not understand how these programs interact.
For example:
1. What can I do with Carrara that I can not do with DAZ? In other words, if I am working with DAZ, why should I buy Carrara?
2. Poser - It appears that Poser can produce more realistic figures then DAZ and also allows for animation morphing between two different images. If I produce a 6-second clip of a character morphing, how would I load that 6-second Poser generated clip into my DAZ scene?
3. Can I morph a character using only DAZ, that is change a smiling face to a monster face?

    1. carrara has modeling capabilities, easier to change out shaders/textures (IMO), great looking terrains and much better lighting. I don't do animations, so can't help with that.

    2. Poser does not have more realistic figures, LOL. Poser does pretty much what DS does, but it different ways and with a different renderer (Firefly). It basically boils down to small specific features each has and the user interface. Also while you can get genesis to work in poser, it has it's issues and hoops to jump thru since it is DS native tech, but gen 4 and gen 3 characters work pretty much the same in either. Again, can't help with animations, but the small bit i did dabble in was pretty easy to do.I am a long time poser user, but switched to DS a few years back and now prefer DS.

    3. pretty sure it's possible, but not sure on the animation aspect of it. Genesis would be good for this kind of transformation.

Which app you use depends upon any number of factors.

What do you need in your animations?

    What figures?

Not to mention what versions of each app? Without knowing what versions of each app, it's hard to give answers. If you have anything less than Poser 9, Genesis doesn't work.

About the best I can suggest without more information is to do simple animations in all 3 and see which works best for you. It's really a matter of what tool set works best for you. There is no right or wrong or one app that is better than another. They all have their strong points and weak points.

I've just started with Carrara recently, but one of its main features, compared to DAZ Studio, is that you can create content directly, rig, shade and texture it, and animate it, too. It also has a lot of built-in features like artificial skies, landscapes, and the 8.5 version can use Genesis figures and other DAZ Studio content. I love using DS for the simplicity, but Carrara is not that much harder, makes me go "Wooow, I did create that?!"

It's should give you a good idea about what Carrara can do, as well as the Carrara Interface.

I haven't progressed as far as using the animation. I can't make any comparisions with Poser, either.
