Any guides for faster rendering?

I'm trying to figure out what I need to input to get renders that go as fast as Open GLs, but have a minmum amount of quality to them aka 'hair products don't turn transparant when they render.'

any guides for how to make Iray or 3DS render faster? I've messed with the dimensions and other settings and it always takes an hour to render anything with them.

If you don’t need total photorealism with Iray, remove all refraction and translucency; go old school with stuff like glass and water (ie: cutout opacity.)

Also lower Max Path Length as much as you can until things start looking wildly off (usually 3-4).

Remove emission on any surface that has a lot of polygons, like light bulbs; use point lights instead.

These tips can make a render sometimes up to twice as fast.

You should be able to render pretty large size images with 3Delight in a matter of seconds.
