Geoshell problem

I've been trying to do a render in iray with a geoshell that applies tears (I've tried more than one with the same result in both 4.11 and 4.12). When I render my character's face is turning a smokey grey color and I can't figure out what's causing it. I've attached a photo showing what is happening the left is how it's rendering the right is how it should render. (The right image was done by rendering without the shell added then rendering just the geoshell then combining in photoshop.)

Anyone have any ideas how to fix it?

What's the offset of your geoshell? If it's really, really small (like, 0.0001 or something like that) try increasing the value to 0.01 and see if it helps.

If you're using a displacement map on the shell and part of it is underneath the skin that could also be a problem. Try using an opacity map to hide the parts of the shell that are underneath the skin.

  • Geoshells sometimes interact that way. Go through the surfaces of the geoshells and find the ones that have opacity set to 50%. Set them to 0 and that should fix the problem.
