Spider & SubAqua light problems

xavieratorxavierator Posts: 155

Dear,

I have two problems with the light:

1. I can't obtain renders with choosed light color, RGB (255, 175, 105) in this example. All renders are in white light.

2. I change the distant light orientation and it's position but the direction and the intensity is always the same in the scene after differents renders.

In the attached example we can see that the distant light is on right side butthe left wall has a lot of intensity

Many thanks, Xavi

Turn the Dome light intensity down or, if using Sun and Sky, change the SS Time to night time. What you are seeing is the light from the Environment Dome which is washing out the Distant Light.

Should be the "Dome intensity light" in Render Settings tab ?

I found some dome in this tab

If there are another lights better for this scene than distant light I can use it

    Thanks, Xavi

The Draw Dome seems to be off but it will still cast light and there appears to be a lot of sliders missing from your Environment Tab compared to mine. Now I see, clear the dome text from the search box at the top of the pane.

  • Here you have my current environment settings without dome filter

    Thanks, Xavi

Try dropping the Environment Map or Intensity to 0.00 which will shut off the light coming from the dome. You have the default HDRI loaded which, even with Draw Dome set to off will still give light.

  • I just change the distantlight position to rear of spider.

In this position is impossible to illuminate the front of spider.

What happens ?, maybe another automatic light is on ?

    Thanks, Xavi

That looks as if it is under the floor in that position. The distant light is an Infinite light and anything in front of it will cut off the light, like a wall, tree or building. Go to the top of the View Pane where you select the camera. Go to the top of the View Pane and where you select the views and camera click on it and select the distant light. This will let you 'look' through the light and see where it is shining. Those arrows are only an indication of direction.

  • The distantlight is rear the head of the spider.

I just change the camera position, now is in front of the spider.

  • The placement of a distant light doesn't matter, only the direction in which it points; it always shines from outside the scene, and in your case it's going to be blocked by the room's walls. If you want light inside a room you need local lights - Spot, Point, or a model with emissive surfaces.

    ok, perfect

And how'bout the light color ?, I configure a color we can see in viewport and the render is always white :-(

    Thanks, Xavi

  • The preview will show the distant light, since there are no cast shadows in the Texture Shaded mode.

  • Sorry, I'm a beginner, what I should to do to render with another color than white ?

What is the use of assigning a color to distantlight if the render will use another light with white color ?

    Thanks, Xavi

  • You need a coloured local light - a spot light or a point light, from the Create menu or buttons on the tool bar.

Did you turn off the headlamp on the camera?

For a medium/big scene like https://www.daz3d.com/aqua-subterranea, I should need a lot of spot light or point light instead of distant light, is it right ?

In this case which is the function of distant light ?

    Thanks, Xavi

According to the product page it already has a pre-made scene with lights for Iray. Have you tried loading that?

  • I just loaded an IRAY pre-made scene, but the lights color seems white in attached image

And there aren't defined lights in order to change the colors

    Thanks, Xavi

They might be Emissive lights. Look in the scene Tab and see if there is a section marked lights. If not then click on the Lanterns, or whatever they are called, and go to the Surfaces Tab and select them and scroll down to the Emissive setting for each one and see if it is set. You can change the setting there.

  • Attached images about Scene Tab and Surface Tab

The spheres are probably lights. You are in the Shader Baker and you should be looking in Editor.

If I turn off all spheres, nothing happens in viewports

Can I change the light color in every sphere ?

    Thanks, Xavi

I have no idea as I don't have the product so I am working blind :)

You should be able to multi-select and then in the Editor tab of the Surfaces pane chnage the Emission colour or the temperature, if they are indeed using standard Iray emissive surfaces.

Spheres selected, emission color changed and temperature changed.

    Nothing happens on viewports.

I will render it to see if the scene color change.

    Thanks, Xavi

  • It seems good changing emission color and temperature color of all spheres

I will try to make changes in my real scene

    Thanks, Xavi
