Setting up Texture Presets Using Jpegs and PNGs

Guys,

I've just bought a couple of merchant resource packs containing Jpegs and PNGs for use in fabric textures. Is there a quick and simple way of turning these into texture presets so I can then use them on my Victorias' outfits? Or am I going to have to do it the hard way and apply each one of the jpegs to a surface, using the diffuse settings, and then save as a preset?

Thanks,

Alex.

    Hi

You may find it helpful to scrutinise these two threads in the New Users Contest forum

In the first one we were dealing with retexturing using shaders, and in the 2nd one we moved on to using textures on a template.

Thanks, Chohole. I'll give them a browse.

Firstly, it's now obvious that I've asked the wrong question. What I actually needed was shader presets not texture presets.

Culling some tips from Chohole's two suggested threads and from the Fabricator page in the DAZ shop, I came up with the following method:

    1) I set up the Jpegs and PNGs in a directory within My Library/Runtime/Textures.

    2) I then created a cube primitive and applied a Fabricator preset to it to form the basis of my new shader (as per the suggestion on the Fabricator page).

    3) I selected the cube on the scene tab and on the surface tab and then changed the diffuse map settings to point to one of the Jpegs/PNGs set up at stage one.

    4) Finally, I used File/Save as/Shader preset to create a preset within the My Library/Shader directory structure.

I used the one of my new presets in a test render last night and I'm delighted with the results.

Thanks again to Chohole and to Marieah's Fabricator. (Amongst its other delights and enticements, Fabricator comes with a number of presets that can be used with third-party Jpegs/PNGs to create new shaders.)

So pleased that you could get something working.

The New Users contests are mainly set up to be educational, whilst having fun at the same time and with the possibility of winning a prize at the end of it.

Jaderail has set up a list here http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/28192/ detailing what were the learning concepts that we have already covered, with links to the relevant WIP threads.
