Invisible light in Iray (how to make?)

Hello! I have a little problem when I use light.

The light source reflects and blocks elements of model. Like spacesuit but instead of face and reflection of environment you see huge rectangular.

The question is simple but I still can't find the answer. So, how can I create INVISIBLE source of light. I know that you can disable rendering for spot light, but if it has diameter even thou it will be visible as reflection.

Creating transparent emitting panel also didn't work.

Looking forward for your advice!

  • Use a piece of geometry (e.g. a one division plane from Create>New Primitive), apply the Iray Emissive shader, and set Cutout Opacity to a very low but non-zero value (Surfaces pane)

Oh! Thank you! Now I understand why it didn't work. I used 0 for it. Now it works, thank you again!

  • When searching for solutions to a very similar problem, not wanting bright discs to show up in the render, I mainly see references to ghost lights using geometry.

Is there a reason people don't just toggle the "Render Emitter" setting on lights?  Was that setting just not available in older versions (currently using 4.21), or are there other benefits/drawbacks I'm missing?

Using the "Render Emitter" setting currently lights the scene, but the source doesn't show up in the render.  Toggling "Visible in Render" means the light is totally removed from the scene.

Ghost Lights did not show in rflections of direct view. The render Emitter setting affected only direct view. The latst version of Iray, not yet available in a public version of DS, does appear to add a way to hide things from relfections and/or direct view with an officially supported "ghostlight" system.

Richard, any ETA on public beta with this new Iray? Is there any chance we get it before next year?
