Does DAZ Studio include clothing magnets?

I know that Poser has clothing magnets, but I am wondering if DAZ Studio also has clothing magnets?  The reason i ask this, is because I want to have a female's skirt be magnetized for sitting poses.

What do you mean by "clothing magnets"?

DS has Dformers, which are equivalent to Poser magnets, you can use them on everything.

If you meant the magnets V4 uses instead on JCM, which required using the "magnetize" pose in Poser: in DS the clothes are "magnetized" to V4 automatically (there's a preference to turn that off IIRC).

  • So, are DFormers and Dforce the same thing?  And where can I access the Dformers to in DAZ Studio?

DFormers have nothing to do with Dforce and here is a tutorial video: https://youtu.be/SZazeppW7TY  The Documentation Center has pleny of notes too... You access Dformers in Menu>Create> Create New Dformer.

A dForce Magnet exists, but it’s not included in Daz.

I get the idea.  The "D" in DFormers stands for DAZ, correct me if I'm wrong.

I do want to ask, dose a DFormer work on a dForce skirt just as well?  If so, that dForce magnet may be one less item for me to purchase.

Actually, "DFormer" is just short for "deformer". I guess someone needed to save a character and drop the "e". :)

Yes, but, it isn't nearly the same thing. What the dForce magnet does is allow you to select a bit of cloth that won't move with the rest of it. Think of it like being able to pinch a skirt in your figure's fingers and have the simulation allow the rest of the skirt to drape properly while holding that one bit in place.

All a DForm does is to move the mesh of the skirt in a particular way that you tell it to go. So it would all end up being on you to manipulate it in such a way that you get the effect you like rather than letting the dForce engine do the work for you.

So I guess, if I were to use hte DForm method of "pinching" the skirt for a sitting pose, I would probably have to add DFormers to the front and back of the skirt separately and move each part of the skirt separately.  Is that right?

Possibly more than one if you, for instance, want it to drape across both thighs and have a slight indention in the middle.

However, all of this is what dForce itself is really designed for. You can clothe your character in the default pose, pose her into the chair, then run the dForce simulation which will animate her sitting down and will automatically have the skirt drape around and over the sides of the chair without any additional work on your part. It may take some getting used to the process to get the best results, but if your goal is just to have her sit in a chair and have the skirt drape around her legs and over the chair realistically, there's nothing extra you need to buy and no manual work with Dforms required.

If you mean the Magetize clothing poses that you get with Victoria 4 in Poser, I don't think Daz Studio has anything like those. I know they are supposed to make clothes fit better in Poser but they never seem to have much effect when I try them.

DFormers are the Daz Studio equivalent of magnets. They each have a base, field and magnet and if you open the DFormer pane from the Windows menu you can edit the falloff curve.

dForce is similar to the :Poser Cloth Room. Adding a dynamic dForce modifier to something is like clothifying it in Poser.

Daz Studio has a pane called Dynamic Clothing but this is for Optitex dtnamic clothes, it only works of clothes rigged specially for it. You need the Simulation Settings tab to control dForce.

What JonnyRay say about using multiple DFormers is right. I sometimes find that I need more magnets or DFormers for fine control in close up renders. If the figure is further from the camera  you can get away with less precise shapeing.

dForce is great when it works. If the clothes were not designed for dForce they might work or they might not depending on how the mesh was made.

DS can use the poses, I think, but it autmatically applies figure magnets to fitten items so they are not needed.

    They can also be weight-mapped.
