How to split clothing?

Hello.
I have one-piece clothing. Is it possible to split it into several parts? Because i want to set up different "Smooth" and "Collide item" parameters to that parts.
Thank you.

Not easily. You could try by loading multiple copies and then using the geometry editor to hide the polygons for the faces you don't want to use for that instance. But even then, I would bet that the polygons of the mesh may not align perfectly with how you'd like to divide them.
Possibly. It dpends on how the clothing is made, and where you want to split it - there is no general answer.
Possibly? Really?
Ok, imagine shirt with pockets. I want pockets to be separate item in scene (but they need to move with shirt in posing). Because I can set up "Collide item" and "Smoot" parameters only for items in scene, not for each Surfaces, right? Surfaces has their "Smooth" parameter, but it absolutelly incomprehensible for me how it works and why, and does it work at all...
Is it possible, yes.
The devil, as the saying goes, is in the details.
If it is a single mesh, then you would need to physically seperate the items somehow. One method would be exporting to a 3D package such as Blender, and then adjusting as required.
If it is made up of parts, and/or there are material zones, this can assist in doing what you want.
... But as Richard states, it does depend.
As an example, there are items that look like they are a skirt and blouse, but are infact one mesh with a texture applied.
I'd recommend posting a link to the item in question, you are likely to get a more definitive answer.
Thank you for a very good example.
So, if I have skirt and blouse that ARE one mesh... is it possible IN DS (this is "Daz Studio Discussion" forum, right?) to do something with this one-peace mesh, so I can set up different smooth values for shirt and skirt?
Thanks.
p.s.: I’m more comfortable with the short answer “No” than with the short answer “Yes, it's possible”. Don't ask me why. :)
The main issue is whether there's enough geometry in the model or whether removing the unwanted parts will leave holes. That will vary from model to model, which is why we can't give a definitive yes/no answer
Johnyray said it: I would also do with twice the same clothe :
the first one: you create a new material with geometry editor for the skirt and make it invisible and the second one: a new material for the blouse and make it invisible.
Richard can say again how you must save the first clothe to prevent bad interference between the two. Save asset? (Yes I forgot again :-) !)
But as everybody said : it depends of the geometry of your clothe !
Also as bigboss Richard said: this process will, maybe, create holes between the skirt and the blouse. But that may be not a problem with your character pose
Change the name and scene ID (Edit>Figure menu) to make sure the two are different (and different from the original).
Thanks Richard, I'll try to not forget it this time :-) !
