Replacing content with DUF files?

So here's a case where I'm a bit behind the times. I know that the DAZ file format changed. And I see some folks now and then talking about updating a file to DUF ... but I'm not clear on what the advantage would be to doing that.

For instance, if I have pose (pz2) and character (cr2) files from non-DAZ content, is there a value in loading it and saving it back in native format?

And, if so, is there a streamlined process for doing this? I don't really fancy having to update gigabytes of content one at a time. :ohh:

    Just one example:

If you want to use a Genesis 1 or V4 skin texture on Genesis 2 it has to be in .duf format or it will not work/load.

If you load a .cr2, inject morphs, and save as .duf, then the next time you load the .duf the morphs don't use RAM until you dial them to something other than default values.

There is no batch converter to make life easy, purely because Poser content is just as cumbersome and user unfriendly in DSON, as it was when we only had the old .DAZ scene file format, so they didn't make one.

Stuff like lights, cameras and materials are just as useless as they have always been, so there is no real point in converting them, dynamics have never worked so they too are a waste of time.

Regular PP2 & HR2 can be "converted" quite easily with "Save as > Support Asset > Figure/Prop Asset", this will give you a "true" DSON version, that way you don't need to keep the Poser version.

The CR2 however is a different problem entirely, as we can't use "Figure/Prop Asset" with them, as that is only for props and TriAx rigged figures. With the CR2 all we can use is the scene subset & wearable save functions, scene subset is for the base figures, while wearable is for clothing and figure hair. The problem with this is you don't get a "true" DSON version, instead of the DSF assets going into the "data/" folder, they instead go into the "data/auto_adapted" folder, where they are at risk of being overwritten, deleted or corrupted. The DUF files also get links added to them, that way if the DSF asset files end up nerfed then DS can find the original Poser files, and recreate the asset files from them, this means you need to keep the Poser version installed just in case.

You could always convert them to TriAx, but I really wouldn't if I was you, they bend worse than they did before and their morphs need completely rebuilt (see pic).
