Hidden characters

Two questions. One, right now if I click the 'eye' icon on a character it only hides the very top level. Hair, clothing, and often several body parts remain visible and I have to expand the character and click the eyes all the way down the tree to hide it all. Is there a way to hide it all with one click?

Second question, do hidden items/characters etc. still contribute at all to rendering time or slowing down the work window, or am I correct in thinking I can speed things up by hiding everything I'm not working on specifically at the moment?

  • Hidden items are not sent to the render engine, no. You should be able to multi-select and use the Visible button in the Parameters pane - hiding a figure should hide its bones, but not fitted/parented items.

Select the character and go to the "create" menu, scroll down and click on "New Group" then name the group.
This puts the figure and everything attached to it in a new group in the Scene tab, if you click on that group's eye icon it will hide everything.
This also works on props, scenery, etc. if they're not already in a group.
