Newb question: How can I make a model glow?

Hi: I was wondering if it would be possible to make a character such as a superhero glow with an aura in a scene? Or what advice people had for designing such a special effect?

I appreciate your help. You've all been very helpful.

    For a Aura effect your best bet would be would be Postwork. With many 2D art programs you can do GLOW or an effect that is close to it. I would Render your scene and then Render just your Character and save each to a differwnt file. The character should be rendered with a black Background and then use Layers in the 2D paint program to add the Glow effect to just that layer.
