*New Error* Lack of NVIDIA driver causing Daz to crash when I try rendering.

CowrieCowrie Posts: 146

I'm trying to render a scene in IRAY, and every time I try it starts the process for about a minute or two, then encounters an error that leaves the render window with nothing but transparency.  I checked the log, and each time it includes the following message

WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\pluginsource\DzIrayRender\dzneuraymgr.cpp(305): Iray [ERROR] - IMAGE:IO ::   1.0   IMAGE  io   error: The image plugin "fi_png" failed to import  (file location).

...with the file named being different each time.  More error or fatal messages follow, but those also vary from case to case.  Can anyone tell me what's causing this and/or how to solve the problem?  Please help!

  • What security software are you using?

    You mean my antivirus software?  I'm using Webroot Secure Anywhere.  I'm not sure what that could have to do with the rendering problem, though.

  • A missing file may be down to an overzealous AV - a while back Kaspersky users were getting pink renders as Kaspersky was deleting one of the Iray files. I'm not familiar with that software, however.

    Okay, I messed around with some settings and found a couple of shaders I had forgotten to change to Iray shaders, and that stopped the error I was having from occurring.  Unfortunately, it resulted in a new error that appears to be due to my lack of a NVIDIA graphics card, and this error crashes Daz as well as stopping the render.  Since I'm pretty sure this was the first scene I've tried to render since updating to Daz 4.12, I thought that the update may have made Daz less compatible with my sub-par graphics, but I decided to test that hypothesis by doing a quick Iray render of a unrelated character I'm working on, but not only did the render work just fine, it completed in what for my computer was a very short period.  Granted, the scene I was trying to render before did include a lot more content, but still.

    The new problem gives the following warning and error messages in the log (I removed some non-warning text from between some of them):

    2019-09-27 16:25:48.672 WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\pluginsource\DzIrayRender\dzneuraymgr.cpp(305): Iray [ERROR] - IRAY:RENDER ::   1.1   IRAY   rend error: NvAPI call NvAPI_Initialize returned an error:

    Is there any way to get around this issue considering  I don't have a NVIDIA  driver?

    RE: appears to be due to my lack of a NVIDIA graphics card.

    As far as I know and I am sure that IRay has never been able to render in Daz3d in GPU mode without a compatable NVidia Graphics card. How you managed this in the past would be an extremly interesting read. You can of course render with the CPU, no matter what "Brand"  you have. So if you are trying to render with a Graphics card other than a nvidia, that is your problem. Uncheck GPU in render settings and use your cpu only.

    I just have basic AMD Radeon graphics.  CPU is checked in the advanced render settings, so presumably I've been running on that all along.  Do you have any explanation for why that might not be working for that one scene?

  • The error says it is trying to find a GPU and getting stalled out by the lack of a driver. If nothing in DS is set to use an Nvidia graphics card that is the sort of error that strongly suggests something is very wrong with your install or system. I'dtry uninstalling DS and reinstalling.

    I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Daz, and I'm still getting the same sort of general message.  Are there any other settings aside from the CPU checkbox in Advanced render settings that control whether or not the program tries to use a NVIDIA driver?

    That's it. This is beyond the sort of help can be given in a forum. contact Daz

    I use CPU only and get the warnings about lack of Nvidia in all my renders but it doesn't stop me rendering so there is something else wrong if you can't render.
