Check marks in Scene list?

Newbie question: In my scene list there is the eye symbol which turns that item on and off. There is also an arrow and checkmark symbols that can turn to an X. What do these do? Thanks.

    When X is on item is not selectable in view port.

    It makes the item selectable or not selectable in the Viewport.

    It is the same as using the Selectable on/off option in the Parameters pane.

    The object can still be selected in the Scene pane or the Parameters pane.

    Thanks. I suppose that comes in helpful when using the select tool in a crowded scene.
