sorry still can't work properly with my daz 3d 4.6 ! I had reinstalled my daz 3d studio many times since there still have been some problems with my downloaded content ! But this time , my daz 3d 4.6 studio can't work with its basic model normally ! it alway shows the message "can't found the xxx files " (if I choose to load basic child.duf , it shows can't find /data/daz 3d/genesis/base morphs/daz3d/base/FBMBbasicChild.dsf and /data/daz 3d/genesis/base/genesis.dsf) (wrong.jpg and wrong 1.jpg)
I know this problems may happened ,because I have changed my settings with Install managers "content files install to :" ( my c driver is only a 128G SSD and only 7.8G left so I have to change the directory for content installing ) (setting3.jpg)
I have tried reinstall many times and this problem still happened , even reinstall the intsall manger 1.0 for several times! can you help me solve this problem ? thank very much

In DS, go to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, expand the "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats", and post a screenshot?

thx , I just found the settings in the content library ---> content directory manager . the settings seems should be manually modified ?
    I have checked my content already installed in the H:\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis\Base\Morphs\DAZ 3D\Base
(very complicated path...) , I have just tried to paste this path to the settings but it still seems would not work...

From the screenshot of DIM you are installing to H:\DAZ 3D\studio
That's the path you need to use, not any subfolder of that path.
Use the Add and Delete buttons in Content Directory Manager to add or remove paths, and make sure the path is in both DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats.

Just for future reference, kids need clothes on these forums (as do the adults).

Your PATHS in the DS prefs MUST match the PATH the content is installed to 100% like shown here...

I have the same problems. Even after editing the preferences DS 4.6 does not recognize my User settings (you know: User\Public... and so on). Better: I point it to the "Benutzer" directory and it keeps the "User" in the preferences.

To me the reason looks simple: I am on a german system. And while the directories are there (but in my german system what means
Benutzer\Öffentlich\...) the folders are empty and the subfolders are missing. The installer seems not to be able to be able to find the german "public" folder, maybe because of the special character for the oe. Just a guess... after installing the missing folders and files manually I can finally load Genesis 2 into DS. But again this makes me use DS as few as even possible. Unfortunatly it does not like me - or better: After running smooth on my system now the installers do not like me.

Anyway: Maybe this helps others. Just build up the folders as DS requires them in the alert and copy the missing files to them after searching your pc for them.

I would suggest changing the folder in both DIM and DS to one which doesn't require special characters.

Is this possible? DIM and DS do not require a public folder? I thought that this is required - and that there is no alternative to the one with special characters.

No, the content folder can be anywhere (except protected folders like Program Files in Win7/8/Vista) and called anything. DIM uses Public as its default because that is the MicroSoft standard for documents accessible from different user accounts.

So it seems that I am out of luck here. The missing files need to be in a directory beneath the user folder. And while the Benutzer folder is recognised as the User folder by DIM the public folder will be ignored by it, regardless what I point it to... Off of that I am not fond of having a growing amount of 3d files on my system drive. But that's a different story. Means to me: adding the absolutely needed files by hand as DS requires them in the dialog when loading something and do the rest with Poser as I am used to.

No, I'm saying you DON'T have to use the default location,, you can put it on another drive and name it whatever you like.

mike is right I have all my content on a USB Hard Drive and not on my System Drive. Work all the time and I have never had an issue doing it this way. I have over 30 different named content folders, one for Buildings, Clothing, Hair, Poses etc etc.

The user did like you recommended and sees what you mean! Cool!!!

My problem: I never was able to get used to DS 3 or higher as it freezed or crashed. So my experience got stuck in DS-stoneage.
Now I have a new computer and it looks a lot as if DS runs more stable. At least stable enough for what I need it for, testing my textures in DS. So please excuse me if my question has already been answered somewhere else:
What programs need the paths set to the right directory when DS is installed on a drive that is not my system drive (at the moment it's H\Grafik 3D\Daz 3D\DAZStudio4)?

Are you going to install using DIM or manually?

The only paths you need to setup for DIM and for DS is the content path, but be sure it is setup correctly.

If din refuses to remove the default path, first add your path, then remove the default one, Usually having teh old path still hanging is the basis for confusion.

This may be the reason. I am using DIM and it always switches back to a location on my system drive. I will try out what you recommend!
One question: The content part ends where exactly? Do I need to point the programs to a folder named content (I am used to this folder from DS 2). Or simply to the main directory that holds the main exe as well?

You can set the install paths in DIM, but you cannot delete the default path unless you first create an new one, then you can delete the default one (the way I have it set up, so it cant default to the wrong place.

And programs should point to program directories (That should not be changed as newer operating systems dislikes putting executables in different places without setting the correct permissions on the directories. Mac OS X is a little nicer here though, but stick on OS X to /Applications/DAZ 3D as installer root for applications (which is default).
