Hi, I'm a game coder and need some advice about DAZ licensing. I'd like to have a source to get an endless stream of character models from, so I thought the Genesis 8 Starter Essentials + Interactive License might be what I need and thus wanted to ask a few questions:
Can I legally...
1. ...use my G8SE creations in my games?
2. ...import my G8SE creations into Blender, change the mesh, add custom textures, etc.? (If yes, can I sell these models on 3D model sites like TurboSquid?)
Comments
1. yes, as long as they are part of the game itself and not in-game purchases for real money or the equivalent (buying stuff for gold found in the course of adventuring is fine)
2. yes, you are free to modify the content as needed for your game, using whatever applications suit your workflow,
Richard, you didn't answer the part about selling on 3D model sites like TurboSquid - I didn't think selling adapted models was allowed even with an interactive licence?
Right, yes - the modified assets may be sold or distributed only as part of the game, encrypted to prevent others accessing the data.
the only thing the genesis 8 starter essentilas gives you is the figures, 2 hairs, basic wear, poses and aniblocks, so unless your figures are going to be nude or wear basic qwear only in the game, you will need to purchase additional content, including characters along with the interactive licenses for each item of content.
As pointed out, this contnt can only be used in an original game and not a game mod or as additonal DLC.
you can import content into blender and customize it for personal use. Selling/sharing it after is not allowed
Thanks alot for the insight, Richard, Melanie and Michael. My hopes are, that importing the hair and basic wear into blender and reshaping it will be easier than creating it all from scratch. I'll definitely purchase the essentials. Cheers!
