Daz 4.10 Keep Copy

Hi, I'm still using Daz 10. I'm looking at the new version but not sure if my card, computer and some of the plugins will handle it so is there a way to keep the earlier version of Daz 4.10.0.123 Pro 64bit just in case I have problems with the new Daz 4.12?
TIA

in the dim zip folder, assuming you told it not to remove the zips after installing the items, will be an IM00012000 or IM00013176 files.   you will want to copy them zips (and associated 'dsx' files) over to a backup folder somewhere that DIM can't see it.

FYI, DIM will overwrite them zips when you install a newer version of studio.

P.S. my sympathies, I have a 4GB GT730 in a computer the newer DS 4.12 required GPU driver does not support. That comp is staying on DS 4.9.  I also don't know why I saved the old as dirt 'GoZ' I don't have nor need nor can afford z-brush, lol. good practice, back up EVERYTHING, and sort it out later, much later, lol.

Oh, and that 'dsx' file is for telling DIM "it's ok to install it" should you need to revert back, something to do verifying it was yours or something like that. hence why you need to backup both of them files.

Thank you so much, I'll give it a try ;)
I have a GeForce GTX1050, with updated the drivers, it's been great with 4.10 just not sure how it will go with this new version.
I'm loath to upgrade my computer as I don't do complicated scenes with most work in Photoshop, that's where I spend my happy time :)

  • I have both DS 4.11 and 4.12 running on the same machine, so I would think it would be the same with 4.10.

Thanks Chris, it's Football Grand Final today, so I'll try tonight and hopefully I'll be able to have both too :)

yeah, the GTX1050 should be fine, it's everything before that Pascal generation that is in the air. Like the Titan X not to be confused with the Titan X, lol.  The GTX9 series, etc. I have a 1050ti in this comp, it's just a tad hot and loud for the other comp (DAW/HTPC) with the 730 in it.  As for DS 4.12 itself, I have yet to notice any major issues at all.  Best of luck.

Install the beta which at the moment is the same as the release.  Betas can live side by side with release versions

Note that if you have any version-dependant plugins you should save their .zip and .dsx file pair too - the ones that spring to mind are: Dynamic Clothing Control (the Optitex kind), Decimator (the full version) and the GoZ and Photoshop bridges.

Thanks for this, I totally forgot about the plugins, hate to lose them!
