Save shader preset without images?

Quick question,

I am trying to save an age of armour subsurface preset, but when I saved it as a shader preset, it saves the images that were specific to the surface I was working on, I just want it to apply the other settings and take the images from the surface I apply the preset to, any ideas?
Thanks!

You can do it a couple of ways...

The first, create a sphere primitive and apply the base shader to it...with no images. Then, select the surface you want to save and right click (in the Surfaces pane) and 'Copy selected surface'. Then go back to the sphere...right click and paste. Then go to Diffuse...and in the drop down box, for the image...select None. Repeat for every other image map you want to remove (Bump, Specular, etc).

The other...File > Save As > Shader Preset...name it and then expand options in the dialog box and deselect Diffuse Color, etc...

The disadvantage of either of those is that you can't get it to just use the images on what you want to apply it to...you'll have to CTL (CMD) click on it when you want to load it and go to 'ignore' or it will load without any image maps at all. Although (I haven't tried it), you may be able to edit the

You should be able to save it as a material preset...that should save your image maps, too. But it's limited in what it can be reapplied to...

It may be possible to hack the support files, but I'm not sure which ones would need to be changed.

Thanks for the tip, sounds good! I actually did not want any images saved with the shader preset, as it's a hair setting, so I want the textures from the hair not to be replaced with the texture from the hair I made the preset with.

Right-click on the thumbnail and select "Browse to file location." This will bring up the folder in Windows, with the preset file selected. The image file will be adjacent. Delete or edit as you please.

Remove the images, export the shader preset, restore the images and render your thumbnail (DS thumbnails are about 91 pixels square, after the old P4 convention. I usually render mine at 100x100, so there's some shrinkage, but not much). Save the thumbnail as [ShaderPresetName].duf.png in the same directory as your preset to overwrite the automatic thumbnail.
