IRay Shaders

I bought an iRay Shader pack, thinking I'd be able to apply it to an outfit but I don't see any of the Shaders available when I have the outfit selected.

Is there something special I need to do to make them show up?

You probably don’t see them appear if you use the “filter by context” option in Smart Content as they’re not setup as an add-on for the clothes in the metadata. Uncheck that option and you should be able to find them.

Shaders work a bit differently than materials. They will apply to anything, where materials will only apply to material zones that match the names in the preset.

Because they are indiscrimate, you need to select both the object in the scene and the material zone(s) to apply them to in the Surfaces > Editor. Then switch to Surfaces > Presets. In the left column, you should now see Shader Preset and Shaders listed.

Many of the recently released shader products will show up under Shader Sets, so look there first. If it is there it will be listed by the product name, where you can drill-down to see the various folders. For some products, this is important as you may need to combine presets to get the final result.

Under Shaders, find and expand "Iray". All the other listings on that level are for the 3Delight render engine. With Iray expanded, you can then drill-down based on usage. If a use is listed, (ground, for example,) there are shaders that meet that description. If you purchased fabric shaders, there will be a listing for Fabrics.

Like Smart Content, the higher levels will show all the presets for that level and below. Drilling down to more specific levels will isolate shaders to the level you select. You can also isolate shaders by keyword, in the upper right filter field. This will list all the shaders with that keyword, so it's important you have drilled-down to the Iray level, or some of those shaders will be for 3Delight.

I see Leana posted before I finished this post. She is also correct. If you want to work directly from the product listed in Smart Content, that's the way to do it.
