Victoria or Genesis? Compatibility questions.

Hello all,
I have been out of the render scene for a while now and just decided to get back into it and I am (almost) starting from scratch. I see a lot of freebie stuff for Victoria V4, now I see that the figure starter kit is $50, which is ok but then I see items like this: http://www.daz3d.com/v4-and-m4-shapes-for-genesis which makes a genesis work with Victoria clothing (from what I can tell anyway). So my question is this reliable? Or should I just get the Victoria figure to use different items? What is the compatibility of clothes?

Please excuse the newbie questions, but I don't want to make investments in items that I will regret later. Thanks in advance.

The Genesis 1 figure and DAZ Studio 4.5+ has V4 and M4 clothing auto fit built in. It also has the ability to use any V4 M4 or K4 skin texture files at the start. There is NOW a compatibility chart built into the New Store.

The product you have linked is only a shape preset that makes Genesis look like V4 or M4. It has nothing to do with compatibility. As Jaderail said, you can use V4 items on any Genesis figure with a built-in function called AutoFit. But be warned, AutoFit does a good job, but not a perfect one. It works very good for the most items, but for some others it does not work at all.

I have heard of AutoFit but didn't know the details as to exactly what it was compatible with or not. It would seem that I have both Genesis 1 and 2 (the former appears to be just called Genesis) as they again seem to be included with the latest version of studio.

I realize it was just shapes, and I may have worded my question badly. Regardless you both did answer it, and I thank you.

But is there an advantage to getting the V4 or M4 figures? For the items that AutoFit doesn't work well on? Or is that not that common enough to worry about?

That is really a question only you can answer for yourself. As a new user I personally would try out the Free stuff that comes with the G1 and G2 installs before I went any further. Genesis (1 and 2) is the New Figures on the Block, the Generation 4's V4 M4's were around much longer and that is why so much content is made for them. It will be a personal choice as to IF you find you need the REAL Generation 4 figures or if the Genesis figures will do what you need. I started long before Genesis and enjoy using all the figures I own, Older and New.
