With Upgrade Files Ending Up in Lost & Found

I recently went to 4.11 and noticed that almost all of my files ended up in Lost & Found. I had 2 files in Lost and Found before and 1145+ after. I upgraded to 4.12 and the files are still in Lost and Found. Is anyone else having the same problem? And any suggestions as to what to do. That is a lot of files to recategorize. Thank you.

Files or products? I haven't noticed any chnage in the number of products.
Did you try resetting your ocntent db? Not at my Daz machine, but I think it's under Database maintenence then a metadata choice (can't recall the exact phrase).
When I am on the Products tab in Smart Content there are 885 products listed. When I click on a product it appears to be mostly poser related files that are in the Lost and Found Category. The other files related to the product are in the proper categories.
There are a few products like My Little Lake that had files in lost and found, in this case it was the camera files.
If there is no metadata, or a category is not specified in the metadata for a specific file, then it goes to the Lost and Found category. Many older Poser products do not have metadata, so that's where the files end up. Not sure how you avoided that the first time around, unless you categorized them. That would remove them from Lost and Found and give them a home. How they got lost again is a question for the database guru.
Preferences>Content and see if "Show Hidden Vendor Categorizations" is CHECKED. If it is, UNCHECK it and see if the Lost and Found category goes back to 2 items.
It was unchecked and I checked it but the Lost and Found numbers remained the same. Thank you for the suggestion.
Sounds like a late night project to me. I don't know how I avoided it either. Thank you.
Have you checked to see if the Lost and Found re-categorizations still have your custom categories? I've noticed when Daz Connect updates metadata the original vendor categorizations (i.e.: Lost and Found is the most visible) come back, but my added custom categorizations still remain. If that is the case, you didn't lose your custom categorizations, I'd just let it go and just check for new Lost and Found entries by sorting by install date.
If you did lose your custom categorizations AND you routinely perform Content DB Maintenance>Export User Data to export your custom categorizations, you can get them back by re-importing your previously saved user data. Content DB Maintenance>Re-import Metadata. On the next screen, uncheck everything and select/re-import the file that starts with UserDataXX.dsx where XX can be a number if there are multiple UserData dsx files.
Fortunately, I've never had to re-import user data, but everytime I see a message about missing customizations, I immediately go in and re-export fresh user data, as Daz Studio doesn't do it automatically.
Making custom categories will take a lot longer than you think, believe me. And, do you include everything, or just the stuff that's lost? It also does not really benefit Smart Content, which requires more metadata, such as a content type (Actor, Follower, Prop, Preset, etc.), default category and compatibility awareness. This can all be done with tools in Studio, but could take as much time or more than custom categories. But when it works, it can be really useful.
