Sounds simple, but how do you quickly duplicate an object in Daz Studio
I've tried Copy and Paste - that didn't work, there are no other options around the edit menu, right clicking
Surely you can duplicate and object quickly ?

Not quickly and easily, but here's how you do it:
Either load a second copy from your content library, or create a new instance if that's acceptable, or: From the menu bar, select File > "Save As" > "Scene subset" to a temporary file (which should create a content thumbnail in your Content Library, then double-click on that content thumbnail to load what you just saved. You can then delete your temporary content thumbnail and file if you want.
The copy and paste options copy and paste attributes and settings of objects, not the objects themselves.
You can also export the figure as an object and then import it.
Don't really know how it works if you want to do another pose or change something... Just did it by accident when I really wanted to import in a different program but ended up importing to daz again as it was late and I was very tired.
But if you want to replicate the object exactly as it is and don't make any changes, it might be a solution...
If you want an exact copy, not an independent item, then Create>New Instance or Create>New Geometry Shell will work - the latter can have different material settings, while the former is a precise copy; both will have the same pose and morphs, but you can move them around the scene as you wish.
Brilliant thanks xxx
Well, there do seem to be various ways of doing this and I'm not that clear on all the differences. I use one of two methods but I keep forgetting how they differ (old age - I forget lots of things):
Edit > Duplicate > Duplicate Node Hierarchies
and
Create > New Node Instance
I've never used the Geo-Shell method but then I'm never comfortable with Geometry Shells as new ones seem determined to interfere with my existing ones in the scene (often they turn milky white).
A duplicate is a new copy of the item, it is completely separate from the original - you can change one without changing the other.
A Geometry Shell is exactly the same geometry, if you morph or (for a figure) pose the original the shell will also change in the same way. However, a Geometry Shell does have its own materials (including UV set) so it can be modified there (which is how things like Geometry Shell make-ups work).
An instance is exactly the same as the original, aside from placement and overall scale - any chnage made to the original will immediately apply to any instances.

Going down the list, flexibility and resource usage both decrease.
