When I render the final render the spotlight shows up, when I turn if off so goes the light would brighen the cows face, and don't say take him out and get some sunshine! I thought the light was suspose to disapear when trying get that final render?

I ment the spotlight should have read Shows up,( not won't show up,)

  • I'm not sue I follow, but if you want better light to see what is going on you can turn off Previwe Lights in the Window menu. You should also be able to adjust the display settings in the Parameetrs pane to have the light not show in the render, I think, though I've not tried.

I load a spot light into the scene, I am lifht up the cows head to help seperate his black face from the very dark backgound. at this point I want to see where the light best placement is, then I try a real quick Iray render. When I see the white outine of that light show up in the render,(like it shows up in the setup stage) that should not be there in a Iray for any reason. It makes sence when you are setting up your render. I had found a place to click onunder the icon of the spotlight there are 2 a arrows there with two options to turn off the light icons in the scene, one gets rid otf the light the other shows it getting rid of the moving handle, so there shows that both don't show up, then i switch to the cameras Iray the spot light is gone, and the moving guide that tracks the movement of the spotlight. Then I get a white spot on the cows neck as though the light is placed next to the cow, but in reality I had moved the light backaway from the cow so I could spread the lighting to give more definition to help bring out  detail of the cows head, but I'm not sure why the little white spot is showing up there, I know it has to do with light, but what I son't know. it is not defined in any way for any tell tell signs.

I'm new to the Iray render, but I found out why that was happening. I was test rendering in the Aux.Viewport. The spotlight showed up there, but not in the actual Main Render. I was going to make a render to show you what it was dgoing on, then while it was rendering the light that I was wanting to use to show you the problem didn't show up in the final render, just light effect it self. Problem solved. sorry to bother you!

  • The light avatar will not show in a full render, but ti will show in the nVidia Iray previw mode.

The white spot is probably the reflection of the light.

  • Thanks

  • Just adding my two cents worth here after reading loads help topics for spotlights not working in iray renders and not fixing your issue.

I had the same problem. I fixed it by doing the following:

Go into the render settings menu, choose the editor tab, make sure the engine: is set to nvidia iray

Then go to the environment menu within the render settings, then look for Environment Mode: I bet is currently set to sun-sky only. change it to Dome and Scene.

Then your spotlight suddenly appears in Iray. Wooot !
