iray to 3delight hair

Can I take any hairstyle optimized only for Iray, take and condition it in 3delight? And that would look pretty high quality. Or is it a waste of time?
For example, there is this hairstyle: https://www.daz3d.com/sara-hair-for-genesis-3-and-8-females
Can I make her look good on 3delight?
Here is my pathetic attempt:
3delight:
With Rssy 3delight har shader:

Yup it's totally possible. I have converted Sara hair but IIRC it uses the OOT hair blending shader, so won't convert correctly if you use a conversion script. You need to manually load the transmaps into the opacity channel. For best results I recommend using the OmniUberSurface shader...load the hair, apply the preferred IRay shader, then select the hair in the scene tab and the hair surfaces and navigate to your contentlibrary/shader presets/Omnifreaker/Ubersurface and apply the UberSurface base. Then locate the missing maps and apply them to the proper channels in the surface editor tab. I think you need to atleast find the transmaps and normalmaps, possibly also the specular maps. You will need to enable bump if you want to use that. You will also need to tweak the specular settings a bit. Good luck:)
For the record, there’s a texture add-on for Sara Hair at Rendo which includes materials for 3DL.

Thanks for the detailed answer! Here's what I got and i already like![](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/utility/thumbnail/1013196/FileUpload/77/23b39e727d329aaf8ed0ad99a44b83.png)
Where can i find this?
Ok I had a look at Sara Hair, and attached a 3DL materials preset for preset 6 (blonde). Here is a quick render using just the camera headlamp:
You may have noticed that only the cap uses a normal map, the rest share the same diffuse-, bump- and specularmap. There are also a folder with SSS maps, which I didn't use for this preset, but you can experiment with them in the SSS channel if you want to.
You should leave opacity color as is, pure white, the transmaps go into opacity strength. To find all the maps, browse to the OOT folder as shown in the screenshot. (I installed using DIM with the default settings, so if you used a custom setting you need to locate those folders.)
I hope the preset works for you, may need tweaking (bump- and specular settings) depending on light setup. If you want another hair color, just switch the diffuse maps to some of the other ones.
Let me know if you have issues;)
Hm for some reason the forum software won't let me edit my post, hope it makes sense![frown frown](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/confused_smile.png)

Thank you very much for the script! He helped me understand how it works. I got a great result! :) Is this method suitable for any iray hairstyle? Or i need different methods for each hairstyle?
And yet, can I somehow speed up the rendering of hairstyles for 3Delight? I use uberenvironment 2, I turn off occlusion and ray tracer but I don’t see the difference ..
Very glad you found it useful;) Well the method can be used for any hair, just note that the materials preset I posted is for Sara Hair only. What you can do is load Sara Hair, apply the preset, save as a shader preset but, in the save menu, uncheck maps. Then you can apply the shader preset to any hair but need to manually load the maps. Also note that, for hair props that use the IRay Uber shader, you can normally use the IRay to 3DL conversion script, but for hairs like many OOT hairs, that use custom shaders like OOT hair blending, the script won't necessarily work or some maps will not transfer, so then you will have to locate and load the maps manually.
Sara hair and many other OOT hairs look great but are rather complex models, that of course goes for most new hair products I'm afraid:) Turning off occlusion for the hair surfaces will help. Turning off raytracing means the hair won't show in reflective surfaces, such as glass, water, metals. So if your scene has a lot of metal etc. disabling raytracing will have an impact on rendertimes. Also, if the hair looks good enough with base resolution, it will render a bit faster than with high resolution (SubD). If you own the AoA lights (Age of Armor), swapping the standard distant- and spotlights for AoA lights will speed up rendering quite a bit. If you don't have them I recommend looking into them. And the AoA ambient light is much faster than UE2, only it will not take environment maps. I often use the AoA ambient for occlusion and UE2 in ambient mode for backdrop/environment color. Hope this helps...can't think of anything useful to add at this point![smiley smiley](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/regular_smile.png)
Edit: There is actually one more thing. If you want to render with HDRIs, check out IBL-Master by Parris. He made a light shader that renders 3DL transmapped hair pretty darn fast;)
