Look At My Hair UV maps

So the UV maps exported with LAMH OBJs are in these odd little squares evenly spaced in a grid, rather than the UV of a single strand spread over a whole tile. I want it spread over a whole tile. Is there a way to make it UV any differently?

I know of only two ways and there are many, to get a uvmap you want. I personally use wings3d and many have used hexagon, there is also blender that is suppose to be quite good at generating maps.
Seems to me what you need is a new map. You could try the options I mentioned or wait for someone who has more information then me.

I have joined the various hair groups into a single model and unwrapped in Blender. It's not exactly what I want, because every strand has its own UV island.
I am hoping I can find a way to have every strand use the exact same map, just stretched length-wise. Or narrow it down to no more than half-a-dozen.
