I don't own photoshop. Th efree version is too short of a trial for me. Therefore,I can not use DAZ studio free version? I have no plans to buy Photoshop or subscribe to it. And I am new to this 3D thing. Can we use some other editing program instead that is opensource or free? And is photoshop necessary to just set up prerendered objects and models? I have an RTX card and 9900k with 32GB RAM. Don't talk down to me. Just answer my question please. I am a novice who just wants to play around with things for now. Thanks for any help.

Not having Photoshop doesn't matter for DS - you just won't have the bridge plug-in, but you will still be able to save renders and import textures using standard file dialogues so that doesn't block anything.
GIMP is free, many folk use it. The purpose of any such editor is simply to re-texture the clothing and/or skins of the models. What's important for retexturing images is to have a program that can work with layers. The mesh template is used as a guideline, paint outside the seams a little bit though. On the surface tab in Daz Studio on the square image button, one can click on that to browse for and apply new images.
No need for PS. Gimp, Krita, Blender, all Free. Affinity Photo $50 Photoshop Replacement, Affinity Designer $50 Adobe Illustrator Replacement. Start with the free stuff and work into the paid stuff, you got time on that rig. Me all jelly.
Afinity Photo is very good. You should get on their mailing list as they ocassionally have sales with a good discount. It's cheap enough and worth the $50 though.
