Hair shadows

I am using the Shirley hair for gen 8 which I really like but I keep running into a problem. The hair has these random strands that are kind of scattered around for extra realism but they cast shadows from certain angles which are very unrealistic looking and make a 'cracked' pattern across the character's face that makes it look like their face is cracking apart. Looks terrible. Anything to do about this?

If they have their own surface you could use the Surfaces pane to set them to be transparent. You could also soften your light - in Iray, give the local lights a non-point shape in their parameters.
