Smart content seems to be mentally lacking

Hello All,
I have been trying to get smart content to work as it should (well at least how i think it should) to no avail. Many items just don't show up for the Genesis figure like a leather jacket I bought on DAZ. I can find and use it fine in library content, but not smart content. It also doesn't show the various materials that it came with (again it does in content library, once I found which folder it was stashed in). The CMS is running, and I have tried reimporting metadata to no avail. Any other ideas? It does show some items, just not everything like it should.

As far as I can tell I should be able to add my own metadata so that it shows up like I want in smart content? I tried added tags and information while in the library content window, clicking on a item and at the bottom clicked tags, entered data then clicked apply. However every time I do this DAZ crashes. I am running 4.6 64 bit. So far I haven't had any other issues with it crashing. Everything else seems to be working fine, except for the smart content (of course I haven't tried full animations etc yet, but clothes, alterations, rendering, lights, backgrounds, etc all works fine).

So any help is appreciated in trying to wrangle this library into a good system. I already have a lot of content I have purchased and downloaded and I want to get a handle on it before it grows any larger. :)

Hi...some things might not have metadata yet ...they are up-dating as they can.....here is a link to an document about adding it... http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/creating_content/packaging/tutorials/adding_metadata/start I have never tried it ...not brave enough....Trish

Thanks for the reply. Hmm that would explain it. I did some checking and I didn't find meta data for the item in question. Others yes, but quite a few no. Thanks for the link, but WOW could they have made it any more complex? Seems like adding a few links and tags should be a whole lot easier. Or just add a few items to categories, but then I guess we already have that with the folder structure. I might give it a try, but it looks like it is just more trouble than it would be worth from that document.

I was thinking that if I had certain items linked together it might make it easier to find items. Ah well. I was also surprised that search doesn't work that well either (even in content library). I think I have better luck doing a search on the content folders in windows explorer lol.

You will find Search works much better when set to FILE as it hunts the Files by name. When Set to Database only files in your Database file will be found. Just a tip for better searches.

Yes I found that and already had it on file vs database, yet it still didn't bring up "jacket" named items. But apparently it requires regular expressions as I just searched with *jacket* and it found everything. Different default searching method than most systems I have encountered as they usually search for any match, rather than exact unless instructed otherwise.

For those interested, I found a youtube video that shows the process in detail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-sdHEBNCB4 I think it is a bit more detailed than the document mentioned earlier in this thread as it shows exactly where each location is. This is certainly a case of it looks harder than it is, but still should be simpler than this. Of course then again content is quite complex: Figures, clothes, morphs, materials etc. All of which only works a certain way (at least without modification). Still handy to know how it works, but not sure I am going to bother other than create a few categories lol.

I go back and forth between Smart Content and the Content Library. I'll admit, I'm so new I'm having to keep notes as to where everything is or I'll drive myself crazy. Still, I have no desire to build my own Smart Content stuff. I read a post about having to re-create that work if things go south with a computer and thought.... naaawwww.

I can say without a doubt, I've never used smart content and it's useless to me. I know other swear by it but it isn't for me. I like the way I'm use to
