Outoftouch hair and RTX card render problem

I never used to get this with my old GTX 970, but ever since I got a new computer which has a RTX 2060 card I have been getting these black blotches on the character's face when using hair by Outoftouch. Below is an example.

  • 99% sure you're having a common issue of the hair not 100% fitting your model in that pose.

OOT's hair always has head width and depth adjustment morphs.  Make them bigger 10-20% and they just auto-shrinkwrap back. Would be totally surprised if that doesn't fix your issue.  No idea why you didn't have that with GTX970.  I started with GTX1070 and I saw those black blotches in many poses when it looked fine in default pose.  Nice lighting & moment capture by the way.

Thanks! That does seem to be the problem. The auto smoothing doesn't seem to resolve it either. I had to use the manual adjustment settings that come with the hair. It still baffles me though why I never had this issue with my GTX 970. I never had to use any adjustments before.

I've also seen effects like this when the figure in question was reasonably far away from the (0,0,0) point.

I've had issues with hair caps showing through foreheads since my Studio 4.12 update which I didn't have on the same character/scene in previous versions.

    Same here.

I know some people see this problem, but it's something I've not experienced with 4.10, 4.11, 4.12.0.86 or 4.12.1.16 Beta. Here are two examples with OOT hairs. The second example uses the same hair and a similar pose as the example from @Richard John S.

I get this on a 970 and a 1070. It seems newer versions of iray in the later versions of Daz are less forgiving with transparencies intersecting or just being in very close proximity to another surface. As pointed out, all you can do is push the forehead out and/or use a push modifier if no adjustment morphs available.

On a similar note, I've had to increase geometry shell offsets by an order of magnitude for exactly the same reason. In the past I'd use as small an offset as possible, now, I'm lucky if I can get away with 0.075.

  • The solution described by Saxa -- SD works for me.  But I have found one OOT hairstyle that does not offer the forehead adjustments - MEGA Updo.  I have tried other scaling options (head size or just scale) and they don't help.

    If you have this

then try the large zone expander which includes an enlarge moprh (which is different than bone scaling which is what you tried).  Worked for me.  See promo image 1 and you'll see large zone expander subsection option.  Just pick that one.

Also Zevo's Fit Control Addons also have an enlarge, though, in future Zevo has posted that he will remove morph functionality for hairs (for reasons).

    I have the same problem.

My solution is to use a program like Zbrush to create custom morphs that push the hair base deeper into the skull.
