[Released] aniHead, a hardware-free motion capture plugin for head movement [Commercial]

With aniHead, there is no need for special motion capture hardware. You can simply use your web cam or load a video file, with a visible face. We use deep learning technology to locate a face and calculate its position in 3d space. The resulting animation then is applied to any node you selected in your scene. You can select the interval, in which the coordinates are written down, to get the optimal result. You have also the option to downscale the resolution of videos you load, to improve performance with high resolution videos.
You can watch the product trailer here.

Is this a Windows Only plugin? (I'm on a Mac.)

From the video, it looks like it's just head movement. I didn't see any blinking of the eyes or expression changes.

Hmm.  The head moves but the neck doesn't seem to in the promo, which comes across as rather unnatural.

It is just head movement, although we might do a plugin for emotions and facial expressions in the future.

From the way you keep mentioning "deep learning" I take it this is DLIB based, prolly Satya Mallik's 2016 example?

That should be an easy port to the mac. Both DLIB and OpenCV are stable in MacOS.

You are right, it is DLIB based and we will probably do a port for mac in the future.

The example in the first few seconds of the video moves very mechanically.  Like a series of linear pans from pose to pose.  Very un-natural.  I don't know if this is a result of a quickly created example that doesn't adequately demonstrate the ability of the plugin, or a limitation of the plugin itself.  My guess is that the plugin has sampled poses at a fairly low sample rate and I am seeing some linear interpolation between those sampled poses.  Would it be possible to see an example where the plugin samples poses at a higher rate?

    edit:

Maybe an example with more than one node animated would serve well?  The sample rate seems less of an issue than I was thinking.

    Thanks for your feedback,
the unnatural movement you mentioned, comes mainly from the fact that only the head is animated. We purposefully chose to do so, so we don´t distract from the function our plugin provides and avoid confusion about it´s features.

  • Hi does this provide facial expression motion capture?

No, aniHead only captures head movement. Although we are planing on making a plugin for capturing facial expression in the future.

  • Is this a downloadble software or is it built into Daz studio and activated with a serial? Reason I ask is I bought this and it shows in Product Library but there are no download links. Also I cannut seem to find it in Daz Studio plugins.

You need to install it with the daz install Manager which can be downloaden from the Website. AniHead should automatically Show up as a download option and can then be installed. Once installed you can open it via the panes menue in daz.

Is that the only way to install it? I do not put my Daz computer on the internet so the only way for me to install is to download the files

We got in contact with the PA support about the missing download links. It should be possible to get the files from the product library and we will message you once we hear back from them.

The only way to download aniHead is through the install manager. It requires the installation of extra runtimes, so the download from the Product library is not available.

Hi, the Camera is purely optional and shouldn´t interfeer with the video recognition at all. AniHead has 3 Tabs - "Hints", "camera" and "Video" When you start DAZ, the default tab is always the "Hints" Tab. In the fourth hint is the underlined word "manual". You can click it to open the manual pdf in your Browser. If you afterwards still experience issues, feel free to contact us through our support e-mail and provide more details (support@dobit.com.hr).
