been using Daz Studio since version 3 but cant get smart content to work!
I use the installer to install all my content but NOTHING ever shows up in smart content. I am forced to hunt for my content the way I had to in version 3. it's horrible I hate it.. why doesn't the installer actually install it properly?

  • Do you get an error about needing a PostgreSQL connection when you start DS? Is Smart Content completely empty, no categories even? Are you looking at the Products tab, the Files tab, or both?

  • Both sections are completely empty
  • I have Mac OS X 10.14.6 I refuse to update to Catalina as most of my games and programs are not optimized to work with it yet. in my previous version of Daz I had no issues logging into the program but I this new version the daz 4.12 I can't seem to log in.

  • Is there a version of PostgreSQL installed? There will be 32 and 64 bit version, if you have the Public Build in your account there will be a set for both that and the standard DS - you need (and can have) only one installed. There's also a utility fro covnerting the ol Valentina database to PostgreSQL - that may lead you to think you have a version of the database installed when you don't.

  • i have no idea where to find those how can i install it is it in the install manager?

  • Should I install the ol Valentina database to PostgreSQL or not?

(exhaustive way of doing it)

  • products show up but nothing in files

Should I install the ol Valentina database to PostgreSQL or not?

That isn't the database program, it's a database converter. You only need to use it once; it takes an old style Valentina database (the one D|S first used for content management) and churns out a PostgrSQL database, which D|S started using several versions back. If your Smart Content etc. was working in a previous 4.x version, then your database was already in PostgrSQL format, so you can now safely ignore the converter.

Smart Content uses the product metadata to show compatible items. Many older products do not have any metadata, so will not show in Smart Content, but should show in the Content Library. You can add metadata yourself to get that functionality, if you want, but it can be tedious.

Are you familiar with DAZ Connect? This is a new method to install content directly from within Studio. It has its supporters and detractors, a discussion of which would be out of the scope of this thread. DIM is still a valid way to install content, and might be what you are more familiar with. If the content was installed with DIM, there is no need to install it again with Connect. Do know, however, that each method installs content to different locations, so make sure the folders used for installing with DIM are properly configured in the library.

Your product view shows the Connect icon to install the Espresso Hair, so Studio is likely not finding the files installed with DIM. Normally, it would show all the items in the product. The Content Directory Manager should have folder entries for DAZ Connect Data (used by Studio to install and use content), DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats (used by DIM to install content, and by Studio to load content). There could also be Other Import Formats if you use things like OBJ, FBX, etc. If you do not intend to use Connect, don't log in to your DAZ account from Studio.

Okay, that's a few things to check that might get you on track.
