How do you add an item to Smart Content?

I recently started recategorizing my entire library (way too much work) and ran into a small problem.

I noticed when I got to https://www.daz3d.com/soldier-2-0-for-genesis-3-female-s that the mask wasn't in my product folder (the materials were). It's in the mapped folder, but I am unable to add it to the product (by selecting "Create a product from..." and entering the original product). I changed the metadata, used the content DB editor and categorized it, but it still won't show up in neither the product folder nor the smart content, nor will it show the materials in the smart content when I have the mask selected.

Is there something I missed?

I see two problems that needs to be addressed.

    1. You Must add the Mask to the existing Product if you want to see it in Smart Content or in Product Library.  If you select he Mask, right click and "Create Product from.." and enter the EXACT PRODUCT NAME when prompted. You should receive a warning message the Product exists and if you want add the file(s) to the product and click YES.  Check to see if the mask has been added.

    2. To associate the Mask to the Materials, In the DB Editor, select the Mask, go to the lower window and select Compatibility.  At the bottom of the window there is a box "Declared As".  There needs to be something there.  Normally it would say <Product Name>,<item name>.  If there is something there, note the Product Name, Item name and go to #3

If it is blank, click on the Declare button and scroll down looking for the product.  If you see a mask listing, you can select it, click accept, exit the DB Editor.  If there is no mask listed, select the product, right click and "Create new sub-compatiblity base" and add the mask.

    3. Lastly, check the Mask material's compatibility setting.  This associates the Mask materials to the Mask.  Load the Mask materials into the Content DB Editor.  Select one or more of the materials, then go to the bottom window>Compatibility.  If there is an existing compatibility set, you'll see a triangle symbol and you'll see any existing compatibilities.  Click on the triangle if the compatiblities are not showing.  The currently set compatibility must match the "Declared As" set in #2.

If there is No Compatibility set, right click and "Add Compatibilities to selected files.." and set it to the Mask.

ALTERNATELY, check the mask materials first for an existing compatiblity, then check the Mask's "Declared as" setting in #2, add if it's missing or there could be a mis-match causing them not to "match up".

Here is a link to the DAZ Metadata documentation

There are also many videos on Youtube.  Search for daz metadata

  • I did all that and I have no results. That's why I came to the forums.

As you can see (I know I should have made these first):

I entered the correct product (copy pasted to be sure).

    I declared it correctly.

And the materials are set to the right compatibility too.

But it doesn't show up in the product (should be between the Leg Attachment and the Pants).

It's like Daz doesn't recognises it as an item (except in the mapped folder where I can load it into the scene). So, either I still made a mistake somewhere, or it's something I completely missed elsewhere.

  • Okay, I found the issue.

I "fortunately" had the same issue with another product, and a search on that one lead me to check the .dsx file. It seems Yura forgot to include the mask asset in the list and that's why Daz couldn't find it. Adding it in the .dsx file and re-uploading the meta data fixed it.

Great news!  I don't have that product, was it installed via DAZ Connect or DIM?  And what was the other product that had the similar issue?  If I have it I'd like to check my install.

  • It was installed through DIM. The other product was https://www.daz3d.com/stylish-shaved-hair-for-genesis-3-and-8-male-s. The issue there was that the hair was misslabeled as Head instead of Hair in the assets and subassets.
