Daz: Please fix Install Manager ASAP!

Since installing the latest version of DAZ Install Manager (64bit 1.2.0.52) it is a mess. It takes ages to show content to be installed. Sometimes downloads constantly fail. ATM downloads are extremely slow and stop continuously, I have to resume or they are shown as "failed" and download has to start again, even if it was at 99 or 100%. 

With the previous version everything was fine, this new version is obviously highly buggy.

Where can I download an earlier version to install it?

  • Older versions are not available, and would nto be able to connect to Daz if they were (since Daz may make modifications on their end which would nto work with older versions of DIM). In any event these are more likely related to the connection to the servers, or the load on the servers (lots of Platinum Club for the day items being downloaded) than to DIM itself. One option, for most things, if you are having download issues is to get the zip from your Product Library page by a direct download, then put that in the DIM Downloads folder for installation.

    I'm not seeing any of these issues. I buy products almost daily. DIM is not buggy from my experience.

    Slow downloads are not a DIM issue but are server or connection related.

    You are both wrong.

    1. I already tested the line speed, my 100/40 line delivers 111 MBit/s down and 34 Mbit/s up, so I can rule that out.
    2. After Install Manager continuously failed to work I tried to install the content directly inside DAZ, that worked WAY faster but not as fast as the earlier version of DIM, so I can rule out server load. At the same time another download in DIM was extremly slow.
    3. The problems started with the installation of the latest DIM

    I've read that some users of Verizon accounts have heavy problems since installing the latest version, so I still am quite sure, that DAZ botched something in Install Manager. It definitely is possible that changed in the network code may affect some users but not others.

    Will DAZ representatives answer here in this forum at all or is it just peer help? If the latter I will stop to ask (as semi-knowledge does not help me) and file a support ticket (from experience: that will take ages to be answered and then with solutions not fitting the problem).

  • 1. shows that download speeds should be OK, but doesn't say anything about the route to Daz

    2. although there is, I believe, some overlap in the servers used for DIM and Connect they are not the same, and are obviously not handling the same data, so this is interesting but not conclusive

    3. But that was also in the middle of the PA/PC promos and the release of DS 4.12 (which had a dramatic impact on the servers for a few days).

    My reply was based on input from one of the developers, but yes the forums are essentially user-to-user.

  • Traceroute shows no problems on the route to the servers.

    That fact is: The earlier version showed me the list of products to install immediately, since the new version it takes ages to show them so I am able to install them. Only the list of installable assets. 

    I really do not believe that their servers are overloaded 24/7, I tried downloading at many different times a day over several days and it still is dead slow. If this would be load related there should be differences. The fact that even the install list takes a long time (some minutes) to show leads me to believe that it is definitely a problem at DAZ if their servers have problems that is a part of the DIM install process and should be fixed.

    Their assets lie in the Amazon cloud and there was no report of that having any problems. That should be load-balanced anyway. The assets are downloaded from the same location if I use the DIM or download in DAZ Studio, so of course the servers are the same.

    I'm also not having any problems with DAZ Install Manager (64bit 1.2.0.52). A few people have complained of issues similar to yours, but for many other people, it is working fine. I think you need to submit a help request to customer service to see if they can pinpoint why you are having this problem.

    Well, if it were really a unusually big problem, then I'd be having a big problem and the forums would be overrun with complaints from everybody, which they're kind of not.  DIM's kind of slow, but not slower than before the recent upgrades, as far as I can tell, and I've not experienced failed downloads in a long time.

    Maybe try uninstalling your DIM and reinstalling?  GL

  • It could still be a security software issue, if it has started checking each file access for example. I have always found the list of installed items to be slow to appear, even when working off line, and simply put it down to the number of files being checked.

    My Categories had a major meltdown a couple of months ago and I have been re-categorising ever since so hadn't downloaded anything from PC+ Ann. Decided Friday night to catch up on that and downloaded and categorised around 130 items and updates over 2 night. It did seem to take longer to show the queue to download but I put that down to the amount I had and the PC+ Sale. I'd say slightly slower than the previous version (26.mbp instead of 30) and not one failed download. I never let DIM update itself, always download the install file, if that makes any difference. Now back to re-categorising... :-(
