How to add moons

Okay I am looking for information on how to add in Moons to a sci-fi scene. I tried just placing a round object up in the sky. It just doesn't look right.

Is there a tutorial on how to do this? or some trick?

@Star Books - Use a sphere and put it in some distance. Give it some diffuse and bump. The most important part is to use transparency with an altitude filter. Rotate the sphere until the phase is right.

    Thank you for information.

I have attached images of what I managed to render, but I think I must be missing something in my settings because I am not getting the half moon effect you have doing. I am not sure what I am missing!

Ah hah! I figured out the missing setting! On the atmosphere I needed to map it to the object space , not the world space!
Thank you so much for the help!

Glad you could make it work. I forgot to emphasize on Object Space though the image shows it.
