Can I make a Genesis Female a Genesis 3 (or 8) female
Hello All,
I have a character in which she was to be just a filler in a scene. When I make such characters, I generally use V4 or Genesis and turn down the SubD levels. However, I have one character that I created as a Genesis, but I want to move her to a Genesis 3 or 8 so I have a much greater selection of clothing. Is this possible? I have looked into a converter, but I have not seen one that goes from Genesis to Genesis 3.
Thank you,
Geo

Check out Sickleyield's store here. She has clothing converters between the 2 as well as additional fitting aids, and a video tutorial showing how to use her product.
I don't think the OP wants to send the clothing down to Genesis, but rather transfer a Genesis character to Genesis 3 or 8. That sounds like a job for GenX2 with the Genesis 2 and Genesis 3 add-ons (at least to get to Genesis 3, it doesn't do Genesis 8), or another method of transfering body morphs between generations, which I have seen mentioned in the forums, but never really looked into. RiverSoft Art has started making character transfer utiliies, so far only between Genesis 3 and 8, and I believe Zev0 is working on some also, but nothing ready yet.
GenX2 and add-ons are available now, but is no longer being developed, and the new utilities are probably a ways off, yet, if they ever make it that far down the generations. As I mentioned, there are manual methods, but not sure how involved they are. If it's just for one character, it could be worth a closer look.
That could be however mention was made that the purpose was for the clothing selections ... sometimes easier to go to the mountain than bring the mountain home. Getting very good face morphs transferred from generation to generation doesn't often work out very well. Rigging, etc. are quite different. Moving clothing though is easier.
Well, he did also say this was a background character, so how perfect does it need to be? It would only have to be done once or twice, and GenX2 usually does a pretty good job. Converting the clothes would have to be done every time, and I find auto-fit to be hit-or-miss, even with the available clones and tools (sorry, I am not familiar with your own auto-fit clones). Then you have to decide if you want to save the newly-fit outfit or repeat the process every time, and organize all that. I'm getting stressed just thinking about it.
I suggest to try transferring the character first, and if it's good enough, you're done, and you have the complete Genesis 3 (or 8) wardrobe available without ever having to convert anything else. If not, well, try converting an outfit or two and see which path is the best way to go for your purposes.
You've got a good point ;-) How deep is the clothes closet yes. I don't have the GenX2 yet primarily because the information for the exact combination of all which "parts" of that set are required tends to be rather confusing itself. And I have yet to see "all of them" on sale at once. But anyways ... the more ideas the merrier. Different ways for everyone.
Okay, the very brief "in a nutshell" way to bring Genesis up to Genesis 3 [and no guarantees this will work] is to:
Load both figures, set base resolution to zero ... and have no other mesh in the scene [no eyebrows, hair, etc.]
Bit much for one post: idea is to make clothing out of one figure for the other to wear ... then for example, to get the "clothing" of Genesis 3 mesh to be looking like the desired Genesis character, then to use that "clothing" of Genesis 3 to make a morph in Genesis 3.
Thing is, that process tends to be so-so okay for bodies, not necessarily so great for faces which are heads with teeth and eyeballs.
Thank you for the responses.
Yes, I was mainly looking to transfer the skin and the facial / body morphs to either Genesis 3 or 8. The character WAS a background character, but I have decided to make her a character of more importance and thus she would be featured more 'up front' than in the background. Genesis isn't as detailed as Genesis 3 and 8, further there is the clothing issue.
I ended up managing pretty well on my own playing with a few tricks though and I wanted to get the character done by Halloween.
So this was the end result:
Yeah, she's a pretty lovely lady in an angel costume.
I did everything with Genesis clothing and materials. The exceptions are the halo and the wings which are Genesis 3. The wings wouldn't work initially, I couldn't pose them. But I found out that the wings would work on their own without the auto-fit and then parenting them to the upper chest. THAT worked. So in essense, I managed to get what I wanted still using the Genesis base.
However, I do still want to know how to do a conversion in the event I want to use this or perhaps make another Genesis character a main character.
I usually like to use Genesis for background characters is because this is the only generation of Daz figure that is androgynous and I can use hair and clothing to create a bunch of female AND male character. Set the SubD to 0 or 1 and these Genesis figures render pretty fast. The only thing is that I have not invested as extensively (yet) into Genesis. For main characters I usually stick with Genesis 3 or 8.
So I would be looking for something that converts the skin, facial and body morphs to Gen 3 or 8. Something simple and not too much hoop jumping.
Thank you for the help so far.

You're going to have to do some hoop jumping no matter which way you do it. We've pointed out the morph aspect, so you have some choices. As for textures, there is no way to get to Genesis 3 or 8 directly from Genesis without additional utilites or some manual procedures (there was a major change in skin surface layout going to Genesis 3). Look into Legacy UVs for Genesis 3: Victoria 5 and/or Genesis Pack (Michael 5, David 5, Stephanie 5 and Aiko 5), they work very well. If you are using the V4 uv map on Genesis (as many of the early textures did), you'll need to get that version of the utility at Renderosity. Alternatively, you can use Studio's built-in Map Transfer utility to get the texure into a compatible UV (like Victoria 5) to use with the Legacy UV products available here.
That played out nicely, thank you for showing us the render too.
