Question on installing to separate drive...
So I'm installing all my content on a separate drive. I found the settings tab in DIM and changed that install location. What I find is that all .zip and .dsx files are installed into the same folder that I designated. There are none of the sub-folders that I found when I was downloading to the recommended destination of user/shares/My Daz 3d Library. Those sub folders incude "light presents" "environments" "animals" etc. So do I need those folders? DIM does not seem to create them on my separate drive.

The *.zip and *.dsx files are from downloading via Dim. You seem to be downloading but not installing, which are 2 separate processes in DIM. Set your download location to somewhere else on the drive, move all of the zip/dsx files to that folder, then map your desired content directory by hitting the cogwheel in the upper right > installation tab (hit the - next to the default installation location in there if you don't plan on using it).
All of those zip/dsx files should show up in the Ready to Install tab in DIM.
This is what the inside of your My DAZ 3D Library should look like. Can you post a screenshot of you downloads tab within DIM
Thanks for the help. I have DIM recognizing the download files on the separate drive, but can't seem to tell it to install those items onto that separate drive. It's stuck on the default download location of user/share/mydaz3dlibrary. The installation tab of the settings dialogue box has a place for 64 bit software, 32 bit software (both set to my secondary drive) but then it doesn't let me change the destination for content. Checking either the "Install to respective installed paths" or "Install to selected path" doesn't" give me a way to set that new path. Neither does checking the "..." button on the "label" and "path" box below. The "current" menu at the bottom of this dialogue box only lists "recommended Daz Folder". My test install of some items shows they are installed to the default location. Any thoughts?
Click the + sign in the installation tab to add a new library- it's on the bottom left.
From there you can click "Install After Download" and "Show Details" on the Ready to Download tab and you can select the products and choose the library (same goes for products already in your Ready to Install tab- click Show Details to choose the library).
On the Settings > Installation tab, click the "+" sign in the lower left to add a new content install location.
That seemed to do the trick...but only after I used the "-" button to delete the default pathway. Seems to be working, though oddly enough I dont see the items I've loaded in the "Installed" box on the main DIM page. So I dont have the option to uninstall them. Perhaps that part of DIM doesn't know where to look.
Are you sure they're installed in the first place? As I said, downloading and installing are two separate things in DIM.
your not seeing them in the folder or in DS?
Spoke too soon, now it's all messed up. Somehow the Daz Studio loaded onto the main drive has vanished. When I use DIM to install downloaded content, the content seems to vanish...no longer in the "Ready to Install" tab or in the "Installed" tab.
I'm doing some trial runs here. In DIM i'll select an item from "ready to Install" and then "star queue." This worked for a few items in that I could see them appear in the folder I created on the secondary drive. So far so good. But then it stopped. I tried installing some "future" items and they didn't appear in the drive and don't appear when I search via Finder. They are gone from my "ready to install" list and do not show up in the "installed list." And then somehow I can't even open the Daz Studio software. It is no longer in the applications folder on the main drive. Confusing.
I went into the "Show Log" tab and all those "futurebright" and "futurequiet" and "Futurerite" files are listed with "Product failed check, moving to next product" This happened for several products for some reason.
Boy they sure don't make this easier. Or the easier they try, the more likely it will fail. I started all over and was able to install through DIM all my content on the secondary drive. But for some reason I can't install Daz Studio itself. I get to my Product Library page on the website and click the download and install button for daz studio 64 bit...and it doesn't show up in the DIM Ready to Download or REady to install tabs. what does happen is I get a dialogue box asking if I want to save your existing filter? Clicking no does nothing. And clicking yes brings up a save filter box but no way to select a path...just to write one in manually.
I have the installer file in my downloads, but am not sure I should install this the old school way and not through DIM. Any thoughts?
Yep I got tripped up trying to install DS 4.6 through DIM and said thw it and went old school! I went to my Product Library and did the manual install :-). Basically I got lost...lol.
I'm a 100% DIM user for Content and Plugins but when it comes to Programs I stop and do a EXE install. I just prefer that all my MAIN programs get a EXE install to assure I get the proper registry settings and all that a EXE install assures us of. The first DIM installs of DS did not create a ini file which broke some things my PC needs to stay the way I prefer it, that has been fixed but.... I want a exe for all main programs.
Thanks. I went old school and it worked fine!
And here's a tip on making old files work on the new machine: Not only did I transfer the file docs, but also the "auto_adapted" folder from the "data" file. This enabled the projects to open just as they had on the original machine.
