On 4.12, is RTX 2070S with 2560 cores faster than Titan X with 3072 cores?

I've learnt from somewhere here that RTX is more significant than amount of CUDA cores when run on 4.12. Is that true? I'm considering replacing my slow Titan X with 2070S. If this is a dull decision, please let me know. Thank you!

  • RTX cards have dedicated hardware for doing ray tracing. That increases render speed, how much depends on the scene. Indoor scenes increase by a lot.

CUDA is not directly comparable across GPU generations. Nvidia improves the CUDA hardware every generation so 3072 CUDA from Maxwell, Titan X is Maxwell, is slower than 3072 CUDA in Pascal which would be another step slower than the same CUDA count in Turing.

However you'd lose 4 gb of VRAM so if you do a lot of big scenes the 2070 might not be able to render them at all.

This is my new knowledge. Thank you very much kenshaw011267!
