Smart content : Certain products from bundles show 'available' but were installed

I only use DIM to install products purchased from Daz3D. I have several products that show up on the 'Available' tab. It seems all of these products came from bundles I purchased throught the Daz Store. For some reason when they were installed using DIM they show up as 'Available'.  I have uninstalled them using DIM but they still remain in Daz Studio. I have tried to update meta data when I right click on the product but nothing happened.

How do I remove these 'Available' references if the product is not installed so that I can reinstall it using DIM?

or

How do i get the product installed without using DAZ Connect?

  • Available items are those which DS knows you own but which are not installed. Installation, even through DIM, should move them to the Installed filter list.

Correct. DIM shows them in the installed filter list but the items are clearly still showing as available. I have uninstalled them and reinstalled but they still show as uninstalled in Daz Studio under 'Available' and Installed in DIM. What am I missing?

What you are looking at in the second screenshot is what is availble through DAZ Connect. If you will use DIM exclusively, you can ignore what shows in the last three tabs of Smart Content, or don't log in to your account with Studio.

Edit: Should have read the full post... Look in DIM to see what is installed, and if it's all there, you don't need to do any more. You can see the actual content in the Content Library. In Smart Content, the Installed Tab will show what's installed, regardless of how it was done.

Ok. But when I go to Smart Content and look up any of those products they show that they are not installed. Even in the content library.

You are looking in the Product section, which knows about the Connect version, and may be trying to take priority. I do not use Connect, so log off from your DAZ account in Studio, and it should go away, unless there is a breadcrumb left in the database that shows it. I don't know. Anyway, look under DAZ Studio Formats for the content. That shows the physical layout of the library with the user-facing files as installed by DIM. (Note: the product that is showing in your screenshot doesn't actually have any user-facing files, they are morph controllers added directly to the character. Actually, most of the products you've shown are like that, and they have no metadata to speak. Noah HD , Hipster Outfit and Steam Carriage should have something you can actually look at in the Content Library)

Thanks so much for helping me understand this NorthOf45. I dont log into my Account in Daz Studio so I am always working offline. It makes sense that most of the products listed have no user-facing files. I did find Noah HD and Hipster outfit in the content library. Steam carriage shows as if it is not installed. I feel better understanding about the morphs so your help has been greatly appreciated. I just wish I had a better understanding on how the whole CMS, Smart Content, Daz Connect thing works. I use smart content mainly but also use the content tabs when I know what I am looking for. Thanks NorthOf45!

Smart Content depends on metadata, which is normally present (except some older products, mainly Poser-based before Genesis and DS4). The metadata is added to CMS when you install a product that has it. It can come either from DIM or Connect. Connect overrides DIM, so DIM won't know about products installed with Connect. The DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats branches show content structured for their respective programs, although many Poser products have DAZ Studio functionality. The internal folder structure and file types determine where it will show up, but both must be mapped directories in Content Directory Manager.

The Products view shows what files the metadata for each product has included. Sometimes pieces are left out, or have the wrong path or filename, so they get orphaned. Sometimes the metadata is not quite accurate, omitting or setting the wrong content type, compatibility or default category. It doesn't happen often, but it could go unnoticed unless you check everything meticulously. Of course, if there is no metadata, Smart Content would be no help at all, unless you add your own metadata where necessary. Easy enough to do, but it can get tedious.

You're welcome, and you'll figure it out. Eventually.
